    Changing clarion head unit?

Has anyone or does anyone know if it's possible? How does Tige touch and the head unit communicate? CeNet? USB? I have 2014 Z1 also have A lot of Alpine Electronics as well as JL Audio gear. That I'd rather be using.

I'll have more questions shortly once I look into all the boxes I have laying around full of equipment.

Well I'm assuming no one knows those answers. Next questions

Is there a reason people aren't using fibreglass enclosures for sub?

I have 4 different subs I could use under helm on Z1, JL W7 10" or a 12" or kenwood 10" or 12". I'm pretty sure I'll use W7 12". The current system uses syn 2 and 6 amps I'll remove the syn 2 and replace with JL HD600.4 for REV 10's with volume control knob for easy control. Add JL HD750.1 for sub I was thinking adding a set of REV 8's and running of sub channels on SYN 6. Any thoughts?

If you want tower volume control I would keep the syn2 and get a ws420 eq, I love mine. That 600/4 won't give you more power and it is not made for marine application so the risk doesn't really outweigh the reward (separate volume control). I put a 10w7 in my RZ4 and think the 12w7 would be great. Obviously you will need the additional power of the 750/1 and the stability below 4 ohm

Not sure why there aren't more fiberglass enclosures except for comfort using it to build an enclosure.

You will be fine running Rev8's off channels 5/6 of the syn6

I am sure another reason for not using fibreglass, is the time and effort and cost to build the box... Also it might have something to do with resonance and damping

Yes, I know. The TT basically acts as a slave remote to the head-unit.

Is there a reason people aren't using fibreglass enclosures for sub?
Skills and materials is likely one reason most dont make fiberglass enclosures. 2nd, thickness and rigidity. Will take a lot of time and glass, to get what you can get with one pass across the table saw on a .75 thick sheet of ply.

have A lot of Alpine Electronics as well as JL Audio gear. That I'd rather be using.
What are you seeking that the Clarion unit does not have, would be my 1st question to you?

Skip the Rev-8 next to the rev-10

Drive the sub bridged on the Syn-6 chnls 5/6 is a great option, but a W7 is not the best match. For a 12W7, I would consider the HD1200 or other amp with an RMS in the range of 1000W @ 2.

Use the 750/1 for the Rev-10's = 375W rms to each pod across all operating voltages.

If you do go with a dedicated sub amp, I would use all 6 chnls of the syn-6 for the 3 pair of in-boats = bow pair bridged on 1/2 and 3/4 and then main cabin pair of 3 and 4.

On HD amps resistance doesn't matter W7's run at 3ohm and HD amp will deliver 750 watts from 2-8 ohm unchanged by resistance.

I have the alpine CDA-M118 marine deck with 2 different kinds of wireless remote, XM module and Bluetooth module. It also has Tower control built right into it.

IIRC, the alpine zone control only worked from the head-unit, not the remotes, correct? This make it slow and cumbersome to access the menu. Been awhile since ive used one, since they stopped producing marine head-unit 2 years ago.

Fingertip zone control like with the Wet sounds WS-420 or Kicker ZXM-RLC is ideal. These units offer dual zone, so you have independent control over the in-boat and tower levels.

Wet Sounds BTVC will plug right in to the Clarion's AUX port or the WS-420

That Bluetooth volume control is pretty cool never seen that before.

Your saying don't bother with a second set of REV's?

The alpine system stays set to whatever difference in volume you select eg. Inside speakers set to 10, tower set to 15 will move in unison as you change volume. But the wetsounds stuff looks pretty good.

May add this to the clarion, do you think my alpine ones may work on clarion unit? It just uses remote control output off back of radio.

I would spend the extra $150 over the Rev 8's and get Rev 10's or a Rev 410.
I have a Rev 410 and just upgraded from Icon 8's to Rev 10's next to it... Sound is amazing

Im saying i would not install a set smaller speakers, next to an existing larger set. You do better to properly power the existing set over adding a set of Rev-8 to an amp thats nowhere near driving the Rev-10 to their potential. If you want the look of a 4 pod setup, i would suggest a 2nd set of Rev-10 and a single amp like the SD-2 to drive them.

To do a mix of speakers, you will need 4 discrete amp chnls. So in a case of a 400W Rev-10 and a 200W rev-8, you are likely looking at dual amps. This is because its not ideal to wire different size speakers together. They do not have the same efficiency and will not share the available wattage, evenly. And not mater what, the larger driver will always dominate the smaller. This reduces the return on investment.

I dont think anything Alpine you have is going to interface with the Clarion. Heck, even 2-3 year old Clarion wont interface with with current Clarion.
