XXX v2 sub Box dual slotted v 40hz

    Hi Guys,

Have just upgraded my 2013 RZR to a 2015 Z1.

In My RZR i managed to squeeze in a Wet Sounds XXX sub in the dual slotted box under the drivers helm with a lot of effort.

With the Z1 there is a lot more room under there to begin with so i am able to fit the XXX in the same position using the 40hz box design from wetsounds website with out too much hassle, to do it with the dual slotted box is hell of a lot more work.

I'm hoping some one here has experience with both boxes and can tell me if its worth the effort to fit the dual slotted box or just take the simpler option of install the 40hz box

    Thank in advance

You dont need to do the dual slot box. A single slot box will have smaller external dimensions, making fitment easier. So to answer your question, no, its not worth it.

I have heard the XXX in both boxes and do feel that the dual slot sounds better and hits a little harder, It does fit in a Z1 but is still a difficult!

If the sob wattage was the same, the net internal volume of the enclosure was the same, port tuning Hz and the ports' opening square inch was the same, output would be the same. Any minor difference in those criteria, would certainly yield different results.

Thanks for in the info guys….i knew there would be a drop off in performance of the sub i just wasn't sure how much.

With the RZR i had to do most of the work to fit any box in there so it didn't worry me too much but in the Z1 i can avoid cutting too much stuff out and relocating the electrical's by going the smaller box.

Probably should have added that I'm thinking of putting a second XXX in the passenger locker so no matter which way i go it will still have more bass than the RZR

I tried fitting the dual box into my z1 and said screw it and gave it to gwhite. Plenty of room in the rz4.

What kind of music do you listen to? I think the dual slotted enclosure, which is tuned at 36.19 hz sounded better with hip-hop, techno, etc but not as good with rock or country. The precision port box tuned @ 40hz sounded cleaner with the rock/country music but didn't hit as hard on the low notes as the dual slot. Just my opinion having heard both. I heard an ASR that had 2 XXX's with the precision port box and gwhite's boat with 2 of the slotted boxes and there really isn't a comparison on how hard the bass hits on rap/techno music. The dual slotted boxes seemed to shake your whole body and make you go cross-eyed whereas the other was just clean bass and musical. I don't know what the output gains are on each enclosure and it also may have to do with subwoofer placement.

Again, just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

looks like i might have to build both and do a test for myself.

ChrisBarnes did you end up going with the 40hz box?

Do you realize that the dual slot enclosure has 1.28 ft3 difference between the gross and the net? Thats space taken up by that 2nd port and its wall structure.

Thats going to be an interesting test, one thats time and material consuming, just to find out that bottle bear and canned beer taste the same. Both enclosures are going to have to be plotted exactly the same. Same net woofer space, same port volume, same tuning Hz. If not, then the difference you hear, is because they are tuned different, not because one is dual and one is single port.

Before actually building both boxes, try plotting each using an enclosure program. This should show you the differences.

I went with a smaller sealed enclosure. It sounds good but not overly loud

I'm with chp on this. A port adds 3db. Another port adds zero. It is all tuning. You can tune either box for what you want. It's science. There are other variables also but those change with either design.

Just make sure the port velocity isn't too high with the single port... Ie you may need a larger single port

I guarantee you would not want to have a 1.25" wide port. It would have to be 29" wide

Also using a SD2 amp to power the sub do i run it at 4ohms bridge or just give each 2 ohm VC its own channel?
