    Amp and Wire

    Looking for opinions for:

    A great and reasonable 23 channel 200wRMS 4ohm amp
Best wire to run to the tower speakers

I believe I am going with the Krypt 7.7 HLCDs

a 23 channel amp .... I dont think I have seem many of those around....
Now a 2 channel amp is much easier to find. Whats your budget?
If you are on a low budget then stick to the PPI 900.4 and put it in 2 channel mode

Or if you want a bit nicer of an amp you can go for the Arc Audio Ks300.4

For that much power you can run 14-16 gauge wire... 12 gauge if you want to plan for future upgrades.

Yeah, a 2 channel is what I am looking for.

I was going to have a single pair of 7.7s in Krypt's enclosures on the tower. Is that not enough?

For a single pair, with room ot expand to a 2nd pair later, The Wet Sounds Syn-2 or the Arc KS300.2 would be solid choices. I would use 12ga cabling to the pods, as it would allow for that 2nd pair to be wired in later in parallel, so no new wire would need to be run through the tower.

For a single pair with no plans to add a 2nd pair later, the Kicker KXM400.4 as a minimum or the Wet Sounds HT-4 as a step up in available wattage. Both bridged in 2 chnl mode and would deliver 200W and 300W respectively.

            Thanks Mike!

You really got me wondering if a single pair of 7.7's will be enough sound to throw back to the riders. Krypt does offer a double pod set up for 6.5's ... so I could use a pair of those for a total of 4 HCLD 6.5" speakers.

Do you have any experience with these to know whether the volume and clarity will be there in a single pair of 7.7's?

I am looking for the balance of performance and price...

Two things hold true for the most part, more speakers and larger speakers both equal more output. Given the opportunity, I would want to first go with the larger of the two options, just for the added mid-bass sound quality. This is more noticeable near field and less at the end of a wake board line. For a pure wake board tower setup, 4 compression drivers will likely win out in shear output as compared to just 2. So 2 pair of 6.5 would have more peak output then one pair of 7.7.

now, is a single pair of 8" class HLCDs enough, likely, if they can actually handle the wattage. I do not know the size of the 7.7's compression driver voice coil, which gives some insight into its true thermal power handling. A single pair driven in the 300W rms range, should give you plenty of output.

The specs on the 7.7s are 180w rms. That seems a long way off from the 300 range you are talking about..... 4 6.5's might be a better choice.

The reason I tossed out 300W rms is two fold. That driver has a 180 rms/360 peak spec. Its never a bad thing to have an amp thats going to drive a speaker above its rms rating. We can always dial back the amp, leaving us head-room, but you can make the amp produce morw wattage. Further, most amp specs are taken at 14.5V. Thats typically not realistic output from an alternator, even at cruising speed. So the amp's output will be slightly lower then that stated RMS. When at rest and the battery voltage is at its static 12.5V, the amps output will be even less.

2 pair 6.5 and pair of double pods, you are within $50 of a pair of rev-10FC! Thats at straight retal, not including a speaker/amp package deal.
