SD Amps not turning back on after engine start

I recently replaced my Syn amps with Sinister amps. All wiring is the same, it's a simple replacement. The problem is when immediately after engine start the AMPs seem like they don't like the power surge and wont turn back on. My head unit and tige touch all come back after the momentarily power flux however these SD amps seem more finicky with the power surge.
I called wet sounds for any ideas and they suggested installing a relay in the remote wiring from the head unit to each of the amps and WS420EQ. I didn't want to bother them too much but I'm trying to dig deeper into how to actually do this and what sort of relay I might need.
Any experts have any other solutions? This is a very annoying problem. I have no issues with the stereo when I turn the boat off and go to the accessory (tige touch button engaged) this is only when I go to start the motor, seems the power flux in the system momentarily suspends all electronics for a sec but these AMPs don't recover even though the head unit/tige touch/WS420EQ is back online with no issues! I end up simply powering off/on the head unit and the amps come back with no issues, but I don't want to be doing this EVERY time I start the motor.

    thx for the help!

If i understand right, you are going from stereo in with key in the ACC to engine cranked, key in RUN and amps dont power up?

How many amps? all SD series?

Do you run the main battery switch in the COMBINE or ON position?

First thing I would do is check the voltages at the amps' power terminals and the turn-on terminals. Set this up so you can check voltage with system off, system on with key in ACC mode and then fire engine up and watch voltage when problem is present.

everything has power when ignition is on, the usual bilge fan runs and Tige touch/head unit/amps all work. Then when I turn the key to engage the starter the motor cranks and everything pauses sort like your vehicle when you start your car. A sec later after the engine is running everything has power again except the amps. I assume they don't like the power surge and try to safe themselves. The clarion head unit is back on and playing however there is obviously no sound cuz the Amps are now off. With the motor running I have to cycle power to the head unit so the Amos get another remote signal to turn on again.
I hope I'm explaining it correctly.

For the relay if you want to try it. 12v constant to pin 87, ground to 86. Remote wire from head unit in 85, out pin30 to amplifiers.

I don't know what type of relay your talking about. Pin 87, 86,85? What if I just ran constant 12v to the remote straight from the amp power supply?

A relay would not be needed, unless you determine there is an issue with the head-units turn-on circuit. As asked above, how many amps are you running? i like to use a relay when i have 3 or more devices getting turned on.

Jumping straight from the amp's B+ to the turn-on terminal will eliminate the amps as the issue, but will not fully point to the issue. This would be done simply as a diagnostic step, not a fix.

Lets isolate the problem, then if a relay is needed, I can help you with the relay and a diagram.

If you ran constant power from the amplifiers power lead directly to the remote lead it will never turn off the amplifiers. The relay is used to distribute power when told using a solid 12v signal and not a Low voltage turn on.

My apologies, it didn't copy the quote before my response.
I can send you the diagram for the relay if you would like. It's a basic 40/30amp relay for 12volt use..

I am having this same problem once I added the sd2 and ws 420 to my z3. I talked to wetsounds and they said to rona. Relay. It's on my list of things to do this spring when I pull the boat out.

                  Mike,

Can you post which relay to buy and how to wire it in. Can I grab 12v constant for the relay from the deck or an amp ?

                  Thanks.

How many amps total are you running? Do you have the time to put a volt meter across the leads and measure the voltage before cranking and then after when the amps didnt power on?

Is you Z# got the Clarion or the new Polk source unit?

If the voltage on the turn-on circuit is dropping to a point that it wont trigger the amps on, it may be too low also, to trigger a relay coil. That circuit is not a load bearing one, just a voltage signal. In the cases of multiple devices, its not a voltage issue that drives us to use a relay, its because the load grow on a circuit thats not built for loads.

If adding the relay fixes the problem, you found the issue... When it comes to remote turn on sometime ya just got to add a relay....

So was it low voltage or low current?

                              Mike,

I will report back when I get the boat back in my hands. It has the clarion head unit as it is a 2012.
