Remote wire from head unit has constant power

Here's the deal. Last season I installed my ws420 and it would not shut off. I pulled the fuse out to shut it off and decided to take care of it next season. This year I got a new amp and now all amps, ws420, and newly acquired HSE Revolution will not shut off. First thing I did was run a voltage check from the amps remote wire location when it's not powered up. No voltage. I then went to the next, no voltage. When the head unit is off no power to the remote wire. Everything seems to check out. Everything is wired correctly. I quadruple checked it. To turn everything off I remove the remote wire from the head unit an miraculously it works like it's supposed to. This tells me it's the head unit, so I replaced that too. Same problem. I'm thinking about just putting a switch on that wire and turning everything off that way but would really like to fix it the right way. Any thoughts?

If all the remote controlled electronics are on when the head-unit is off, there HAS TO BE voltage on the turn-on circuit. I think your meters ground source was faulty.

Start with finding a known good ground for the meter. The head-unit metal chassis is a good one.
Confirm my probing the the head-units yellow wire with the meter's POS probe, should read voltage.
With head-unit on and eq and amps powered up as normal, tough the meters POS lead to the amps turn on terminal, should read battery voltage.
Turn off head unit and retest turn-on terminal at amps. Voltage should still be present if they are on.
Of voltage present, find where the head units blue/white wire splices into boat harness and clip it.

Did amps and EQ power off? If yes, head unit is issue

If eq and amps stay on, then start with cutting the EQ's blue wire out of that circuit since it was the last item installed before problem. Im guessing theres a wire in the wrong place or theres a whisker hair bleeding over into the one of the amps B+ terminals.

Thanks mike. I will run through what you said again tomorrow when I can get back to the boat. I thought there might be a loose strand from the b+ side as well but nope, I kept it clean. And yes when I clip the blue wire from the harness everything shuts off. This is the second head unit with the same problem. I know I'm "lucky" but geez. What are the odds I get two head units with the same problem. Maybe I'll go find a cheapo from Wally world and see if that works before I go spend the cheese on another clarion

slim to none that 2 head units would be putting out 12v on the remote wire when off, but im puzzled that the all the amps and eq are on and no voltage on that turn on circuit.

Well, I got a chance to go over everything again and everything checked out. Snipped the remote wire from the head to the first amp and everything cut off. New head unit on the way.
