    Stereo Upgrades- Need advice

I am needing to upgrade my in boat speakers and my head unit. My current setup is the Clarion CMD4 with 3 pair of Kicker 6.5 component speakers.

I really like the JL Audio speakers but not sure I could fit the 7.7 component into my current cutouts. Has anyone done this? I have also looked at moving to a coax speaker but then what do I do with the tweeter from my current components? Other recommendations on the speakers would be great.

    Head Unit wish list
    - Blutooth
-transom remotes that will work to replace my current helm and transom remote from Clarion. Recommendations from this forum are super helpful to me

    Thanks for the input

I'm in the same situation. I don't need to upgrade my speakers, but I have the same head unit and I want to get a better unit as well. So anyone have any recommendations???

I would say the cmd8 with the MW1 remotes is a good choice also just won't have BT capabilities but the pandora and other options are nice. Can always add a WS or such brand BT to it for cheap.

As far as the tweeter component cutouts you can put round leds in the holes or just leave them which is what I did in my last boat and put in the WS SW650s in the white color and they look similar to the grill on the kicker component. Nobody will know the component aren't functional. There is a link on here somewhere about the round led pucks and I believe member CHPTHRIL has them for sale and a post on them. I'm sure he will chime in.

A Kenwood KMR 362or562BT will replace the existing head unit also giving built in AptX Bluetooth. The remotes will work in the old remote locations as well...

The 7.7 will likely not fit in the OEM locations that are below the seats above the cub holders. its tight due to the flat mounting spot starts to radius.

              Leave the tweeters as dummies.

              Swap them to LEDs

              Have the holes glassed over

An external universal BT can be added to the CMD4 as an option. The head-unit has a standard 2x7 cutout, but you will likely have to fab a trim plate to cover the CMD4 mounting screw holes ans possible clean up a sloppy cut hole.

Sony makes a good BT head-unit and the remotes are slightly larger dia then the clarion. Fusion has some units but square remotes, which may just cover the clarion remote hole. I would consider sticking with clarion as the new remotes are the same footprint as the old, but need all new cabling run to them. Again, there are some good universal BT's that only need a rear RCA AUX input.

I'll be replacing my Clarion M109 with a new head unit to get MW1 compatibility. If you don't need the watertight specification of the CMD8 Clarion has the M303 and M505 that have bluetooth. Main difference between the two is the M303 has CD and the M505 does not.
