    alpha z tower

Just picked up a new to me 2014 Rz2. It currently has two rev 10's on it and I ordered two more rev 10's. Dealer has informed me that the alpha z tower isn't pre-wired for the extra pair of speaker or for the LED rings. Any one have any recommendations on wiring the tower or how hard it is? Worth trying on my own or paying to have someone do it? Thanks in advance. Looking forward to my first Tige!

I was thinking they were pre wired from the factory. I order mine with no tower speakers and installed them at the dealership. 4 rev 10's all pre wired and with RGB light rings.

      Chris,

The tower is likely wired with 16ga cabling. Thats undersized IMO for the Syn-2 wattage, so I would rewire anyway. If you plan to retain the OEM Syn-2, I would run a 12ga 4 conductor up the tower for both pairs. Each pair can then be wired in parallel in the tower by the pods. Or, run four 14ga 2 -conductors. Each pod gets its own wire pair and the parallel connection is made at the amp. If you are going to change amps and drive each rev-10 to their potential, then each pod deserves a 12ga 2-conductor.

For LEDs, you will need to run a 2-con for single color or 4-con for RGB from the furthest pod to the helm, picking up each pod as you go. 22ga works fine.

Its not the easiest tower to fish, especially when the holes in the tower base and backing plate dont align with the hole in the deck.

I'm kind of surprised not prewired for the speakers. Not really a big deal though. Just added two more speakers and LED lights on my Z3 this winter. I had to run wires for tower up each side separately. Could not get wire across the top. Remove your docking lights and tower LED lights if you have them. This will help with access when fishing the wires. I would recommend running a thread tap into the bolt holes in the tower for the new speakers. Mine had quite a bit of powder coat in the hole which could have damaged the threads.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Will be picking the boat up the weekend after Easter and will access the situation then.

The last 2012 I did, was pre-wired for 2 pair, but the unused wires had to be found and fished out. The 2015 I just did was wired for 2 pair and it was also wired for RGB lights. The OP's boat could have been ordered with no tower option and the current pair added post production.

My 2014 Z3 was wired both speaker and led in both spots... But the LED wires for one side are stuff in there...

It's actually a project for me tomorrow to work on finding that LED wire.

How hard is it to re-run the wire? I hadn't really considered redoing all the wire, but I'm adding a set of REV10's (2 pair now), and upping the wattage to the WetSounds SD2...

It looked like the wire was 14 ga to me, but I could be mistaken.

Just got my hands on the boat for the first time this past weekend. Yes indeed the speaker wires were run as well as the LED wires. Thanks again for the feedback
