    Tower Fading control

    Hey guys,

    I have a 2015 Tige Z3 on order with the Polk PA450UM.

I was thinking about adding an external tower fade control. I don't want to scroll through the deck menu every time I fade my tower. I didn't want to put in a WS420EQ because there will be 2 separate volume controls and I want to keep it as simple as possible. I was thinking of using a simple RCA Gain adjustment like this:

    Any feedback or comments?

the tower WS amp if it is like mine and I believe most of the newer model Tiges has a wired remote knob under the dash just below the TT screen. You can turn the towers down using this amp knob which is nice. The knob is hidden and I wouldn't have noticed except I have been under my dash a bunch.

The knob under the dash is for the sub volume control. Below is a link to a Roswell Dual Zone control. You can use one knob for in-boat volume control and the other for the tower volume. I have one on order, I believe it is +/- $45.

I like the Kicker ZXM-RLC for a couple of reasons. 1st being, its a 9v per chnl line driver. This provides a cleaner, stronger source signal to the amps, allow for their gain levels to be lower. 2nd, It uses a data cable between the control knobs and the control module. The module gets mounted by the amps. This keeps the RCA cables short, as opposed to a basic pre-amp level control POT. Shorter cables means less chance for unwanted noise entering the system. The knobs can be surface or panel mounted. I prefer having dual zone. This allows for independent control of the in-boats and tower speaker levels. Most people are looking for an easy and effective way to be able to dial down the in-boats and crank the towers. This Kicker ZXM-RLC offers this.

Link? Price? Do they offer a single control that can be used as a sub volume control?

            Tower Fading control

I couldn't agree more with chpthril. He did a recommendation on the kicker before and I bought it. Just installed it this morning. All I got to do now is fab some metal so I can mount the knobs under the dash. I did test it and it all work very well.
I got it for $80 free shipping from sonic electronix. That price was after I called them and asked for it. Normally cost 99.95.

If you are using a Kicker amp, you can use their optional sub level control. Most amp manufacturers have a means to control sub level via a data cable and control knob as well. Kicker does not offer a single zone version of the ZXM, but it can be used for controlling a sub zone as long as that sub chnl. We've uses 2 ZXM's on occasions in order to get a 3rd zone.

So the 15s have a volume know underneath? Is this for tower or sub?

Thanks CHPTHRIL, That kicker Item looks fantastic! I may go that route.

I am just surprised the stock deck didn't have a sub out...

Yes the 15s have the knob under the dash. As dandy said it is quite possibly for the sub, but I wouldn't know as I didn't find it until after scream did a sub install and they must have hooked it up to my tower amp now so I can turn my amp down. It would be a quick switch to your tower amp if you didn't need it to control the factory sub which you won't as the sub is WORTHLESS anyway! I think I've seen some posts on here that the 14 models and maybe a little older have the hidden WS knob?

                    Thanks JLG,

I'm going to have to decide whether im going to keep that for sub..and add something for the tower or take that out and set the sub for a certain level...

They have always had a knob under the dash if you have the system with the WS syn. 6. Like Dandy said above it is for the sub. The towers run off the syn. 2 and thats not what its attached to so no way its controlling tower volume. I know its been under there at least back to late year 2012's.

I have also used the kicker ZXM Mike is suggesting and it works great. Wouldn't have a bigger system without it.

I moved my sub control out so I could play with it. I also rewired the sub to get 600 watts instead of 150. It makes the knob more valuable.

Tige has been installing the Syn-6 sub volume knob under the helm for years. Sad thing is, most dealers dont even know its there, so neither does the customer. Its also there in the 2015 models using the SD amps

For 2015, the OEM Wet Sounds 10fa will now be bridged on 2 chnl for more available wattage.

The Syn-6 is the only OEM Syn amp that the sub level works with. So no Syn-2 tower volume control with the OEM Tige setup.

The 10Fa will move the same amount of air as any other 10" woofer. Dont blame the woofer for poor performance thast due to lack of wattage and poor execution. On the past few models years, Tige has restricted the woofers performance due to the hull and cap design. Dont know if this has been changed on the 2015 models, but at least they are taking advantage of the available wattage from the Syn-6 and SD-6.

Thanks for the heads up Chpthril,

I will most likely be looking at some sort of fade adjustment like the kicker or possibly the Jl Audio... I don't want too many knobs and controls. I want it as idiot proof as possible lol....

Look close at the JL. IIRC, one zone is controlled by the knob and 2nd output is a fixed pass through. This assumes you are using a JL amp with the line level connected to it for the 2nd zone.
