Upgrading my stereo in a Z1. Need honest advice please

Wet sounds all the way around

I currently have 2 rev 10's tower speakers running off a syn 4. I'm want to add 2 more tower speakers either rev 8's or 10's. I'm already upgrading to a SD4 amp. What pair of tower speakers do you recommend me adding to my already installed rev 10's. Rev 8's or 10's? I've been told rev 8's would sound better and fuller paired with my rev 10's but 4 rev 10's just seems like the way to go. Let me know what you think or what you would do.

    Thanks Guys!

You never want to mix speaker types that are playing the same frequencies. Otherwise you will get minor nuances to the sound. Go with the Rev10's if you want another pair.

Awesome! Thanks for the fast input! Much appreciated!

I also want to upgrade my cabin speakers. I'm planning on buying a sd6 to run those. Which 6.5's to you reccomend most?

SW650s for the interiors running on that sd4 would be great and I'd do rev10s powered with an sd2. As stated above try not to mix speaker sizes. Your ears will bleed with the sound coming out of that interior!!

Go with a 2nd pair of Rev-10. From an acoustical standpoint, there is no advantage to adding a smaller speaker next to a larger, even when both are the same type, such as the REV-8 and Rev-10 both being an HLCD. The larger speaker will naturally over power and consume the smaller. It almost makes it not worth the battery power to drive the smaller speaker. The next reason is when they are wired together to the same amp chnls. When 2 different size speaker are wired together, you're tuning will be a compromise to one of them.

          I'm already upgrading to a SD4 amp
SD-2 for 2 pair of tower speakers is the way to go. Cost less and will deliver 100W rms MORE to each speaker.

Your z1 would have come from the factory with the Wet Sounds XS-650, unless it was ordered stereo delete and the dealer installed something else or someone swapped them. If you are considering and SD-6 for an in-boat, then go with the hi-output XS-650's, no question.

chpthril- Thanks for the awesome input! I actually meant to type SD2 earlier so we're on the same page with that. I'm pretty sure my boat came with the wet sounds xs-65i. They sound good but not great. Granted I do most of the driving so the only speakers I really ever hear are the two fronts(I drive with one knee proped on the seat). So ultimately I want to buy a SD2 to run 4 rev 10's. My next to move is to get killer sound for the in-boat. I was planning on going with the SD6 and xs-650's unless you have a better suggestion. I also have the stock sub to run as well. If you have more advice it's greatly appreciated.

            Thanks

Its easy to tell the different between the factory 650 or the 65 that would have had to be installed post factory. The 650 has a rubber boot over the magnet and the 65, the magnet is enclosed in the composite basket. Open the seats in the main cabin and its easy to get to the back of the speakers.

Next, if your system was post factory installed with the xs-65, they may have been the original 65 series with the "W" tweeter and not the revised 65i series thats available now, that has a much smoother dome tweeter.

Since your boat only has 4 in-boats and 2 of those are in the bow, this tells me its not the factory installed option. The bass option would have been 2 pair of speakers in the main cabin on head-unit. Next level would have added bow speakers, amp and sub.

Yes, the SD-6 and 3 pair of XS-650 is a perfect combo, but lets talk about the sub. What sub is it and what amp is driving it? Do you want to upgrade the sub?

chp, my 22ve had 4 wetsounds as a factory install in '12 and has 2 in the bow and 2 in the backhalf of the cabin. no amps-only hu. build sheet lists "wetsounds premium sound system- (cdm6 w/ 4 wetsounds coaxial speakers" at $1240.20
dealer indicated that nothing was added post build. based on the wierd options picked, I believe this is the factory build.
don't see his year of boat so perhaps it was different.

                  Scott,

Your are correct on the placement if the 2 pair of in-boats on the bass level system, one pair on bow and one pair on main cabin. Next level would have added 2nd pair in main cabin along with sub and amp. Its Malibu and CC that put 2 pair in main cabin for bass level and bow pair the optional 3rd pair. Thanks for pointing that out. Either way, the XS-65 was never an OEM installed speaker, always the XS-650 and the sub would only be OEM if there is the 3rd pair of in-boats and Syn-6.

expensive price for just a hu and 4 speakers

you should move next door to the factory and do all the installs..

                      Hey guys,

My boat came with 6 speakers in-boat and 1 sub under dash. The speakers are xs-65's. I'm looking to upgrade to the xs-650's. What amp should I buy to run these? And I also need the woofer powered. I currently own a SYN 6 and SYN 4. I'm gonna buy a SD2 to run the 4 rev 10's and the SD6 to run the rest. What are your guys thoughts?

                      Thanks

Yes, SD-6 for the 3 pair of xs-650 and sub.

chp - Thanks! How would you wire the SD6 setup?

chnl 1-2 bridged for the sub, 3 and 4 for the bow speakers and 5 and 6 for the 2 pair in the rear. If the sub and 6 in-boats are wired to the Syn-6 then it should be a direct swap over.
