2008 22Ve tower sound upgrade

I am sure you are all ready to help me spend some money. I am looking for advice and suggestions on upgrading my sound system this winter.

First, I have been getting some great advice from Chpthrl on possibilities. He has actually suggested keeping and repurposing much of the system that I expected to replace. I really appreciate the input.

So, what I have:

4 xs-650s in boats
12" Rockford Fozgate sub
2 Focal tower speakers by Samson on a Razor Tower
Sony Iplod driving the sub
JBL 4 channel driving the tower and in boats


Plan
Add a pair of 650s in the boat
Keep the JBL to drive the in boats
Build an enclosure for the sub and keep the Sony Amp

Now comes the discussion part

Replacing the tower speakers and adding an amp

My preference is to add a pair of Rev10 and an amp

Other possibility is Icon 8

Last option is 4 Rev10

Looking for comments on the choice of speakers. Also thoughts on amps.

Has anyone else installed Rev10 to a Samson Razor?

Looking to see how they work with the Bimini.
With the existing speakers, I can simply rotate the cans to deploy the Bimini and the speakers clear no problem.

Are you set on the additional 650's in the cabin? I added a set of 808's and they are flat amazing!

One of the best ways I have heard it put is this. If you wakeboard mostly you are going to want the REV's to really get the sound out there to the rider. If you are mostly surfing then the ICON 8's are going to be fine. After having REV8's on my last 2 boats I wouldn't own anything else. But we only surf maybe 10% of the time so we need the extra projection. They are just plain LOUD and super clear. But you have to have separate volume control for the REV's as they over power everything else. I use a Kicker ZXMRLC(Chpthrl suggested) or many use the WS 420's. They will blast out passengers in the rear of the boat. This is a costlier option as the speakers are way more and they need a more expensive amp as they will require 300 watts each minimum.

But if you mostly surf then the ICON's will save you a lot of cash on both speakers and an amp as they require way less power.

x2 on the Kicker ZXMRLC. The beauty of the little zone controller is no worry about running RCA's next to power lines and introducing noice. Simple phone cable to knobs. Pretty sweet little product for controlling in-boats vs tower and install is very easy (vs running RCA cables everywhere).

In short no! I wish all the speakers were up higher off the floor. If I had to do again I would have added one under the helm or under the throttle.

Thanks everyone for the input. I will be adding the 420 or ZXMRLC. I am leaning towards the Rev10 after listening to the icon8 and rev10 side by side at sound advice. To me, the near sound quality is very comparable, and of course, the 10's project a long way.

I am getting into installing the new speakers and amplifier. As noted above, I bought the Rev 10s with a syn4 and a pair of XS-650s
I plan on getting the Kicker ZXMRLC

I spent the day figuring out how the boat is currently wired - as expected, the sub is powered by the Sony XMZZR3301 - I will leave this as is

the current pair of in boats and the Focal tower speakers are wired to the JBL CS60.4 4 channel AMP - the in-boats are paralleled to the front channel and the tower speakers are on the rear channel

I will be removing the Focals and wiring the Rev10s to the Syn4 - bridged

I will be using the CS60.4 to power all 6 in boats (all xs-650s). I expect that I can parallel 2 pair on the front channel and put a single pair on the rear channel.

Now here is my confusion - to use the Kicker ZXMRLC I expect that I need the same RCA from my head unit (let's say front faded) to go to the ZXMRLC and then split to the two amplifiers. Is that correct?
Does that mean I end up with the opposite (rear faded) not connected? The Sub is on the non faded output.

Also, It is not clear in the CS60.4 manual if connecting to only the front input allows me to drive speakers on both the front and rear outputs.

If all of this is confusing, how about the more simple question - how do I wire all this up?

Nice selection on speakers. That is similar to what I had on my 07 22ve. I had 4 pair of rev8 powered by an SD2 and the 6 sw650s were powered by the sd4. I wired the front speakers ea to a channel and the rear mid speakers to their own channel then the rear were doubled up to a channel. I had my boat at brostock and the thing out pounded many down there that were sponsored boats.

The one drawback to the rev speakers is they are extremely heavy for those towers and will cause them to shake violently on long hauls and will cause cracking or at least it did on my factory z series tower. I see you have a Samson and perhaps will not have this issue with just 2 rev 10 but I would do the easy release clamps and remove them on long hauls if it were me. will save you headache down the road.

As far as the deals wetsounds has on their actual site, I personally would order from a dealer or at least ask a trusted dealer what they can do on price before I were to ever order directly from wetsounds. Nothing against wetsounds as they have higher prices to allow their dealers to move their product for them is all and you can most likely save hundreds getting equipment from your local guy. Pricing varies significantly from dealer to dealer also on wetsounds as their is huge profit margins to be made so beware!!

Basically, yes. In this configuration, here is how i typically wire things up. Port bow = left front, stbd bow = right front, port aft and mid-ship in parallel = left rear and finally stbd aft and mid-ship in parallel = right rear.

Ok a slight oops, the boat came with this capacitor from street wires. In the pictures you can see I broke one of the terminal studs. The part does unscrew so it can be replaced if I can locate a replacement. Any idea where I can find a replacement terminal? What are people's thoughts on the need or value of the capacitor?
