Sealed vs ported box for xxxv2.

On the Wetsounds website it says you can do the ported or sealed enclosure. After I moved up the medallion box and cut out the wall I found the steering cable still limited my space. We decided to build the sealed enclosure to 1.2 cubic ft of airspace as it recommended. My question is has anyone gone this route instead of the ported? Ported was my first choice but wasn't feasible. I'm curious if it will still sound good.

I'm not familiar with the xxxv2, however a sealed subwoofer generally "sounds better" than a ported one. You get better frequency response. A port will add an extra 3db of volume (equivalent to doubling the power) but it depends on what frequency your port is tuned to as to whether or not you deem that be sounding as good.

I would never hesitate to run a sealed subwoofer is space is a concern.

I had a XXXv1 in a sealed box with a Syn2 pushing it, and it was only ok, but it was also alittle under powered with 700rmw. If you dont plan on doing a ported box now you will endup doing it later.

I have not done a V2 in a sealed and dont plan to. If space would not allow for a ported, I would choose a different woofer. I have heard a V1 in a sealed, and was not overly impressed. The V2 in a ported enclosure with 1000W rms or better, is truly impressive.

I'm running it with an sd2 at 1250, so power will be no problem. I just wish that steering cable wasn't there. I really wanted the ported box but it just wasn't gonna work. I will see how it sounds when I get home Sunday, couldn't be any worst than sitting in the port locker like it was.

My cable moved fairly easy once I took all the attachments off.

It's pretty easy to unscrew the clips and relocate the cable to get it out of the way.

I took the clips off when I cut out the wall. There is just no slack at all. It sits at an angle behind there blocking most of the room. Oh well. The sealed box sounds pretty good, but I'm sure ported would have been better. It definitely sounds better than sitting in the port locker. Maybe my next boat I can do a ported.

I'll try and take some pics of mine this weekend.
