OK, so I got my 420sq hooked up. Two additional Rev-10's (really simple since pre-wired). I added all of my LED speaker rings which was quite a lot of work and wiring. I got everything up and running, tuned my amps per the instructions, had everything sounding pretty good and everything working for about a week. Then I got the "amp guard" message on my head unit. Amps turn off as soon as I power up. I did some research and recommendations to unhook "turn-on" wire to equalizer and amps to see if overloaded. Nothing changed. I then un-hooked RCA jacks feeding the equalizer as well as the RCA jacks to Aux. Still the same problem. I powered everything off the head unit, then powered back up. No change. I pressed the reset button. No change.
The only thing I found was that the excess wires coming off the 16-pin connector on the back of the head unit were cut then taped together without insulating the individual wires. Some of the wire ends were exposed and fraed and could have been contacting each other. Everything had been working great, I may have disturbed the wires while hooking everything up?
The dealer is ordering me a new head unit, I'm just concerned I could have done something wrong, I just dont know what.

Ok, 1st thing i would do is cut back and tape off those speaker leads. Those are driven by the head-units internal amp, so if they are touching, it could trigger that error message. Looks like your boat was originally built with the base system, then upgraded at the dealer level. This would explain the head-unit harness being used, then clipped off.

2 amps and an EQ should not be an issue for the head-unit to power up. But, if in doubt, install a relay triggered by the head-unit, that will carry the load.

Does Tige use a relay to turn on the amps or just depends on the deck?

Do you hear a click when turning the stereo on?

Tige does not use a relay, since any head-unit should be able to handle 2 amps, which all you get from the factory. A relay can be used for any system, but my rule is 3 or devises, it gets a relay. That could be 3 amps or 2 amps and an EQ.

              I agree,

My last boat had 6 amps, Eq and HSE trident. I ran all amps and stereo systems off a Switch rather than ignition.... The touch screen will stay on when you turn the key from on to accessory?

Im not a fan of having the head-unit tied to the ignition switch, but just note, turning on the head-unit and turning on the amps should be 2 separate actions. If running a system without a traditional head-unit to provide an amp trigger, then using a rocker to trigger the EQ and amps is ideal.

Currently, the TT and stereo are tied to the button. Engine cranking is on the traditional key. Also, the TT and stereo both draw off the house bank, so no fear of it drawing down the main cranking. With no Polk remote on the helm, you need the TT powered up, other wise, you are going to the glove box for all stereo commands.

As chp said- In my 15 Z3 when the battery switch is on the polk HU is powered up unless you manually power it down on the HU. The blue TT button can be turned off and the HU still has power and the music will play and all remotes will work. I assume this is to keep the TT from being on and overheating and draining battery etc? Or perhaps this is the way these boats have been since the blue accessory buttons have been added? I first though maybe the remotes were wired wrong as they remained lit up when the batteries are turned on so remembering to shut them off daily is key!
