2009 RZ2 - How best to setup stereo

Just bought a 2009 RZ2 and am replacing the (4) Pro60s with (2) Rev10s as well as installing my WS420 from my previous boat and want to know the best setup.

Here is what it has in it. (6) WS in boats, (1) WS free air sub, (1)Sync6 and (1) Sync2. I will be slowly upgrading over time with M770s a new sub and D class amps but would like to get the best sound and control out of what components I have at the moment.

    What would you guys recommend?

What WS in-boats do you have?
Why would you want to replace them? I have a bunch of XS-650 and Icon-8s on the tower and love the way it sounds.

For your sub build an enclosure and properly amp it. If you want to change your sub, I personally like the JL Audio 12" W6s, lots of folks are running the WS subs though.

The best thing you can do is wait til Chpthril answers.

The first thing I would recommend is to double check the OEM in-boats locations for fitment of anything larger then a 6.5". A speaker with an 7.7 or larger OD, like the JL, will not fit the 3 stock locations in the main cabin where the are placed above the cup holders in the recessed nook.

      Get a Syn-4 for the Rev-10

      Get a Syn-4 for the 3 pair of in-boats

Keep the Syn-2 and get a single 4 ohm or 2 ohm DVC 12" sub.

Class-D amps are more efficient then Class-G/H such as the Syn series, but the difference in current draw will be minimal.

This thread details my 2009 RZ2 stereo upgrade. Perhaps you will have some of the same issues or needs. Lots of useful feedback in there.

Looks like I will have to spend some time researching before I upgrade anything else. For now though I have the Sync 6 and Sync 2 and WS420. The current setup has the in boat and sub on the Sync 6 and the tower speakers on the Sync 2. I guess that just leaving them on the sync 2 for now will be the best setup?

As for as why JLs...I am an audiophile and like clean natural sound and the JL M series has for marine speakers, in my opinion, the best sound quality, most solid mid bass and I love soft dome tweets. I had them in my previous boat and would like to have that sound in this one. Not that the WSs are not good speakers...I just prefer the sound of the JLs.

Chpthril, are you saying that there is not enough fiberglass in the area above the cup holders to increase the hole diameter?

Thanks for all of the feedback. I very much value all of your insight!

That is basically the only option for the new Rev-10's at this point.

              Affirmative!

My boat is currently in with a friend that owns an audo shop where i live and they have done some amazing work on other boats.

I have all the factory stuff...

Syn 6 powering 6 in boat WS 650's and 10" FA sub
Syn 2 powering 4 tower speakers
                WS 420

                Now whats being added...

12" WS sub under helm in custom ported box with new 1000 W amp, relocate 10" sub.
4 JL audio 8.8's in main cabin... These are not replacing any factory speakers since they will not fit and would take a ton of modifying to make them workk so they are simply being added in new holes under seats where they fit. New JL amp to power all of these.
3 New Optima batteries and on board rapid charge/multi stage. We run a compressor on the boat when we park and play tunes and hook the batteries up to the compressor and keep everything loud.

Im probably not listing something but i just kind of told them have fun with it. Picking it up before this weekend though for sure!

                  JM,

I dont want to question your install but have you heard the 8.8 next to the WS-808? I did 2 pair in a boat just last month, driven with 200W+ rms and I was not overly impressed. They did not have near the depth, fullness and warmth as the 808's ive done, with less power none the less. If you have not listened to them, I would realy encourage it.

Also, I would also ask your installer why he wants to retain the 10" sub? With a 1K rms 12". its not worth the space to house, amp power to drive it.

I told him he could take it out or leave it, have a space that it would fit just to be there. Ive heard the WS 808's and the JL's and seemed pretty similar but im not a stereo guru! My problem was the backorder status and i dont care for the work that the wetsounds dealer here does. the install will have new amps installed for the 8.8's so hopefully the correct power will make it work out for me.

He just did this makeover style install on a 247 LSV and the 8.8's are what he used. I will be having the 808's installed in the bow to replace the 650's and hope to keep the 650's just need to find a place for them up there. The 808's are not as deep when mounting so can make them fit up front where the 8.8's are much deeper in mounting depth. The boat was very loud just not deep, no punch to it so hoping to add some lows and midbass to help the overall sound.
