    Wetsounds vs Memphis audio

I'm currently waiting for the delivery of our 2014 rz2 and planning on building a system soon my question is this I'm wondering what people think of the Memphis audio 12 subs I'm planning on putting 2 12s in the boat and running a ton of power to everything but really can't see spending the added cost for the Wetsounds subs. Any info or thoughts w be great

For starters, what is your perception of "a ton of power"? What Memphis sub and what Wet Sounds sub are you comparing? The Wet Sounds XS-12 has an RMS/Peak of 500W/1000W and the XS-XXXv2 has an RMS/Peak of 1000W/2000W. The Memphis 15-MM12D4 has RMS/Peak of 200W/400W.

I am not intimately familiar with the Memphis line up, but what I have seen and heard did not lift my skirt up. With a quick glance at the memphis sub specs, it states "Water-resistant coating on the cone" This smells an awful lot like a cellulose based cone. Wet Sounds uses a 100% synthetic injection molded cone.

One sub does not magically move more air, produce more output, then another sub of the same size. Its all physics and mechanics. With all things being about equal: same size enclosure, same amp power, etc, 12" sub brand A will have the same output as 12" sub brand B. Power handling and excursion is what sets subs apart.

Where are you thinking of locating those 2 subs?

Allan Kendall (Squid's Wake) has Memphis Audio in his boat and sounds decent. I think Wetsounds sounds quite a bit better though. If you are on a budget, look at the Kicker lineup as well. I run Wetsounds cabin speakers and a 12" Kicker L7 in my boat and it rocks! Kicker has a very nice lineup but people often forget about them.
What kind of money are you spending on the 2 12's and the amp to power them?

If you don't care about having the latest and greatest, there are some authorized Kicker dealers out there that have older stock that you can pick up relatively cheap. Subs for ~ $100.

I was a Memphis and Wet Sounds dealer "I closed my shop a year or so back" but I had both in my RZ2.

Once I got the boat I ditched the syn6 and got a WS420, two syn4's and a Syn1 for the Sub. That damn syn1 was a beast! It blew every sub I put in the boat including two XXX12's (one at a time) It wasn't the amps fault nor was it any of the speakers fault (Probably Bud Light's fault) but I liked my stuff loud.

My solution was running two Memphis Mojo 12's now they weren't "Marine speakers" but they did handle the power and my abuse. And as far as I know, the new owner is still rocking them!

So in conclusion, make sure you buy a sub that can not only handle the power your amp is capable of putting out, but get one that can handle more and save yourself some time/frustration...
