    2012 Z3 stereo problems

Got the boat back from the factory & discovered that the stereo no longer works. Appears that power isn't getting to the amps or the stereo unit. Where do I begin?

I would check the house battery. Your boat has been sitting for some time right? This seems to happen when they sit for a period of time. The house battery goes dead. I would start by putting a meter on the house battery and seeing how much juice its got.

      check fuses.

Agreed re checking battery. An excellent upgrade in an onboard battewy tender (i.e., a trickle charger).

I mounted a dual battery charger on it last summer, and had it plugged in this morning when I was trying to locate the issue. Guess ill have to try standing on my head in the back battery compartment to see if there is a blown fuse for some strange reason.

not trying to sound like a smart arse, but a volt meter will end speculation and tail chasing. Do what the shop thats going to charge you $90 an hour is going to do. if you do not have a meter, 15 minutes of the first labor hour will cover the cost of a meter.

Also, do you know what the battery voltage was? Most chargers are just that, battery chargers and not power supplies. If the battery voltage low enough, the charger could require some run time before the level reaches an acceptable threshold for the amp and head-unit to power up. As an example, I have a large heavy-duty shop charger that I use in the shop. We had a boat in with 2 toasted group-29 batteries. My charger could not even get enough voltage going to power the system up. With the 2 combined, best we could get was 8.6V. Swapped them out and the system powered right up. Individually, one was less then 3 volts and the other still will not charger above 10V. Both are done for. This boat also has an on-board charger. All it did was get the cables hot to the touch.
