    ZXM-RLC cable problem

I bought the ZXM for zone control to my system and everything worked fine when I tested it but after I ran the kicker conductor and the 6-conductor Ace hardware phone line to the helm only the kicker line works. I tested it again with both of the Kicker lines and everything works. Is there something special I need to do? If Kickers reason for the two different lengths was to keep cost down I would gladly pay another four dollars to have both of them the same length. I spent more in time and diesel running around town looking for a phone cable that apparently doesn' work.

You need to cut the end off the aftermarket cable you purchased, rotate it 180 and crimp a new end on.

Weird, the standard phone cable that I bought worked on mine but I have an older one.

I thought we had gone through all of those....

Back story: The ZXM-RLC was designed to use an off-the-shelf phone cable. The first run of these was built right and correct. When the second production run was built, the folks that run the plant where these are manufacturered ordered in the wrong type of cable. Rather than getting the correct cable and scrapping the wrong ones, they changed the circuit board to make their wrong cables work.... We got all over them for changing an approved design.... They fixed the remainig production runs.

Unfortunately there are still some in the market with that bad backwards circuit board.

CHp has it right, but let me explain a little more fully. Pretend the 4 wires in the off-the-shelf phone cord are RED, GREEN, BLUE, and BLACK from left to right as you look at the plug. You want to install a new plug so the wires are BLACK, BLUE, GREEN, and RED as you look at the plug the same way. Do this just on one end of your off-the-shelf-cord.

I apologize for this as it is rather embarrassing. I wish I didn't have to share that we have a problem with a product, but know when you make the connector end change it will work properly.

          It's not an optical illusion.
          It just looks like one.....

Thanks I ended up mounting mine in separate locations due to the lengths. I didn't know it was just a standard phone cable. Guess I have a new task for my day off tomorrow.
Could anyone tell me about how long the longest cable is?

Yes, it would be just one end you flip making it into a crossover cable. If you flip both ends you end up with the same cable you have now.
