General stereo config questions

I am tweaking my stereo configuration trying to get the most out of it and I would appreciate some feedback for the stereo guru's in da house.

I have a 2013 Z3 with a Clarion CDM6 receiver connected to a SYN 6 amp running the interiors xs-650's on channels 1/2, 3/4 and a XS - FA - 10 on channels 5/6 following the config recommended by Wetsounds. I also have a pair of ICON 8's running off a SYN2 again configured per Wetsounds. BTW love the wetsounds documentation, would be lost without it!

What started me down this path was the sub was just not hitting that hard with the stereo config from Tige That is when I reviewed the config against what Wetsounds recommended and I made some changes to follow their spec for running interiors and a sub. I turned up the gain and bass boost on the sub channel and turned down the gains on the interior channels. The sub now hits harder and I have a better balance with the sub volume remote under my dash. Progress.

I still think the sub is not hitting as hard as the same sub I had in my 2004 22V but I think that may be in part due to the airspace for the sub. I took the sub out because I wanted to confirm how it was wired and with the pro ballast there is not much free air behind that sub. I also feel like I have to turn up the gain all the way and the bass boost almost all the way for it to hit hard which is surprising.

I was also looking at the CMD6 RCA out to amp setup and right now it is wired front RCA out on the interiors on the SYN 6 on 1/2, 3/4 channels, rear RCA out to the sub on SYN 6 5/6 channels. And the towers are on the syn 2 on the non fader RCA. Any reason to change the outputs around? I thought about switching the sub to the non fader and the towers to the rear to allow for more volume tweaking at the front/rear fader level but I don't know if that is really necessary since I have a pretty good balance at the amp gain level today.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

1) Is your XS-10fa a current 4 ohm SVC or a left over 4 ohm DVC that Tige still had in their inventory? If a DVC, did you rewire it in series to an 8 ohm load? This will have some bearing on #2 and #3.
2) did you bridge the XS-10fa on chnls 5/6 per a Wet Sounds rep or based on the SYn-6 owners manual? You are now driving a 10" free-air sub with 600W rms (if its the current 4 ohm SVC). I would not advise this as I thinks its a bit strong, but OK if on the direct advisement of Tim or Gyver walking you through the tuning. The OEM setup is actually per Wet Sounds, not Tiges own that they dreamed up.
3) with 600W rms to the XS-10fa (if its the 4 ohm SVC), I would expect the gains to be near zero. i would also not want to see the Bass Boost up to high either.
4) unless the ballast walls have actually closed in the sub, then I wouldnt worry about that. My concern would be to have a little breathing room behind the magnet.

When you had it out on the floor of the boat, did it have 1 set of binding posts or 2? If 1 set (a + and a -), then is a single 4 ohm. If 2 sets, then im 99% sure its a 4 ohm DVC as thats the only coil config that Tige ever used. Also, on the magnet, there should be a sticker that noted the coil config.

1 set of bind posts so it must be the single 4 ohm. I got the config from the syn 6 manual, I have not talked to anyone at wetsounds about that config. When I have the gain low and bass boost low the sub barely hits at all. And I even disabled the remote volume just to see if it was that. As I said earlier the factory config was really quiet and the sub was not working hard at all which is what started all of this. And I did make sure the fader from front to rear was centered also on the receiver. Sounds like I need to give them a call and confirm my config. I will do that. One more detail, I am connecting to an iphone over bluetooth to stream my music. Thanks for the feedback!

I would heed caution using BT for tuning, its a step below using the 3.5mm jack in terms of sound quality and signal strength. Use a USB or store bought CD. I think you let the smoke out of that 10" sub before you get the bass you are after. I would consider upgrading to a 12 in an enclosure so you can take full advantage of the Syn-6's 600W rms.

One other thought that comes to mind, double check to make sure you have the sub wires polarity bridged correctly at the amp. if not, then the sub is firing 180* out of phase.

thanks for the info. I will try with USB and double check the polarity this weekend. Also will get a call in to the wetsounds team for advice. I am now wondering is running my ICON 8's off the SYN 6 and my XS -FA - 10 off my SYN 2 makes more sense.

The Syn-2 is perfect for a pair or two of Icon-8. It will deliver 200W rms x 2 @ 4 ohm with a single pair or 350W rms x 2 @ 2 ohm with 2 pair. Bridged @ 4 ohm x 1, it will deliver 700W rms. Im already not liking 600W rms to an IB 10" sub. If you had a 12" sub, It would be worth looking at reconfiguring.
