    Only tower speakers working?

I believe I'm dealing with a stock (upgraded?) stereo system in my 02' tige 21ir.

It consists of a clarion xmd1 deck, 2 clarion amps (1 - 2 way and 1 - 4 way) 6 in boat speakers (12 if you count the tweeters), a sub, 2 tower speakers, and 2 wired remotes.

When I got the boat last year the glove box was filled with water and the deck was half submerged. After drying the boat out I was surprised to find the deck powered up and I had some sound out of the tower speakers. Then I put the boat in storage.

This spring I swapped out the deck for a clarion cz500 (i had it laying around the house - and it has iPod/Bluetooth). I still only have sound out of the tower speakers.

If I swap the RCA's around I only ever get sound from the tower. Does this confirm a dead amp? Both amp fuses are good and the green power light is on for both.

Also, its the 2way amp that powers the tower and the rca cables hook directly from the deck, but the 4way deck is connected using 2-1 RCA cables.

It appears that there is no dedicated sub cable.

    Any ideas?

You have 9 speakers total - 6 in-boats, 2 towers and a sub and 6 amp chnls. The Tower pair I would expect to be wired to the 2 chnl by themselves. The sub should consume 2 chnls and im willing to bet its on the 4 chnl amp. This leaves 2 chnls for the in-boats. I would not expect to find all 6 in-boats wired to the 2 remaining chnls of the 4 chnl, but since none of the 6 in-boats and the sub are not working, its possible.

So the in-boats and sub have never worked for you, even post head-unit change, is that correct? When you swapped the head-unit harness for the new head-unit, where any of the speaker output leads wired to the boat harness?

A green light would indicate that the amp is powering up, so thats a start. I would get a 3.5mm x RCA cable and plug it directly into the amp and use your MP3 as the source. This bypasses the head-unit and the RCA cables completely. Next step would be to pull the speaker leads off the amp one at a time and tickle then with a 9V battery and see id you get a pop out of each speaker. Dont hold the battery to the wires, just a momentary touch is all thats needed.

      Thx chpthril,

Great idea to use the mp3 directly. I'll try that.

Also, I never changed the wiring harness. It was a direct fit to my new unit and I can't remember if it had speaker wires to it or not.

And no, I've never had the in boats or sub working. Pre or post deck change

Well, I tried plugging the iPod directly to the amp and I got nothing from the 4 channel amp. Just to check I tried doing the same to the 2 channel and it worked fine.
Also, there are no speakers wired to the deck - the only connections are the RCA's.

          I guess I'll buy a new amp?
This is what's in there now. Any suggestions on a replacement? Does it really have to be a 'marine' unit?

There are easily dozens of amps that will be a suitable replacement for that 4 chnl. But since you have 3 pair of in-boats and a sub, I would suggest a 5 or 6 chnl amp over a 4 chnl. This will give you 4 dedicated full-range chnls to power the 6 in-boats and a dedicate sub chnl. And no, it does not have to be marine, but they have their advantages. In alphabetical order:
