    Need Z1 stereo help

    Hey guys,

I currently have a Clarion CMD5 head unit running the 4 WS XS-65's in the boat. First upgrade was a WS-420 and a pair of Rev-10's on the tower with a Syn-4 driving them. I'm looking to add a subwoofer like the XS12D2 in a ported box. Would it be possible to install another Syn-4 and run the in-boat speakers and the sub off of it, and be able to control the volume of the tower, sub, and in-boat speakers independently with the 420?

Yes, the Syn4 will drive the sub with two channels bridged if you series the woofer voice coils for a resulting 4-ohm load. The other two channels will drive the four coaxials, two per channel in parallel with a 2-ohm stereo load.

The previous model of WS420 EQ has zone control between the tower and in-boat zone. The sub is fixed on the in-boat side and has a paragrahic bass tone control that can function as a level control to a limited degree. If you want full, isolated bass control then add an inexpensive PAC LC-1 level control to the WS420 in-boat fullrange output. This will allow you to attenuate the in-boat zone without affecting the sub output and provide bass combined with tower. A great majority do not require this extra control but it's available if you want it.

Thanks David. I'm glad to hear I can run the sub and 6.5's off the Syn-4. This will definitely save me a little on the tunes.
