    Tinsel leads

So one of my tinsel leads on my 12" XX-XXX corroded in half. The other two subs (XX-XXX) are fine. What cause this? Age, wear or bad luck.

They were put in in 2008 and the boat has 500 hours. Each sub has a Syn1 driving them.

Took it to a sub specialist and he said, no problemo. $60 bucks and she'll be banging like new.

    What gives?

Heat is what damaged to the tinsel leads.
Keep in mind that any speaker is only several percent efficient and most of that energy is converted to heat at the voice coil, which the tinsel leads are directly connected to.
I would re-tune the amplifiers without the woofers connected, with a 50 Hz, 0 dB sine wave disc, and set the gains with a voltmeter to the rated amplifer power. No bass boost if you are after maximum output. Moderate the EQ bass if you have one.

Let me know what the impedance load is on the amplifier and what the rated power is at that particular impedance and I will tell you what AC voltage you should be reading at full output.

For what it's worth, the guys at Speaker Exchange http://reconingspeakers.com/ said they never seen a sub like the XX-XXX before and wanted to know all about it. So we kindly elaborated on Wetsounds equipment and what not.

Total cost to repair was $64.20 and done in one day. It will get tossed into hole #2 and the Syn1 will be driving sometime later tonight.

Hoping to get another 5 years of life.
