New Clarion Receiver compatible with old clarion remotes?

Hi Tige Fans. I have a 2003 24ve. The receiver was originally a Clarion, and was just upgraded to a new Clarion CMD7, although the two original Clarion wired remotes don't seem to use the same connection. The female connector on the new Clarion receiver doesn't seem to fit with the male connector on the original Clarion wired remotes. Do any of you know if there is an adapter piece to make these two compatible or do I have to rip out the wires and remote and replace them to fit the new receiver? Thanks!

Your best bet is to upgrade the remotes, IMO. There was at one time, an adapter available, but it has been discontinued. On occasions, one may pop up on ebay though. IIRC the old has 6 pins and the new is 8. Also, if my memory serves me right, even with the adapter, display is not retained. I did see where one person cut the ends off and matched the wire colors up and spliced them together, but leaving the two extra wires unused. Remotes work, but no display. I think he used a new 8-pin Y cable and spliced it with the old extension cable.

Depends what the old HU was. Probably a XMD3? You'll have to get new remotes of that's the case. Use the old remote wire to pull the new remote wire. I just put a cmd6 in mine and bought the mw1 remotes for it. They should work on the 7 too
      Ain't no 1/2 steppin'

Thanks. That is good info. I do have one remote with a display and one that is not. At this point, I figure what you said about finding an adapter floating around on ebay or splicing the wires is a good band-aide for awhile. What would I search for? Clarion IIRC adapter? I am not sure what this would even be called.

Also, my old wires have a y connector or splitter that has a male and female connector on it, and the back of the new deck, I believe it just had a female connector on it. I assume the y was for the use of both remotes. How do you hook the y connector up to the back of the receiver? Did I miss that there are 2 connections on the back of the receiver/deck?

Try searching the Club Searay forum or the Fourwinns forum. One of those is where I saw the splice trick, as well as someone posted the 6 to 8 adapter part number. If not there, it may have been TeamMastercraft.

if you call clarion and ask them for a wiring diagram they will email you the diagram and parts list and you can build yourself an adapter. i did that until i upgraded the remotes
