99 2100i speaker size for windshield

I don't have any speakers installed where the lower part of the windshield is. i know speakers can go there but i just curious if anyone would know the correct size. I am wanting to put alpine speakers there..

And another thing does a 4v pre out really make that much of a difference...
i currently have the sony marine CDX-M60UI and it has a 2 volt preout..

reason i am asking is when i play my stereo at a decent volume the highs wash out on their own and all you hear is the bass.. sounds like the treble just disappears and i hate it...

If you do not currently have dash speaker holes, then I would hold off on those and explore other options first. Adding dash speakers will most definitely bring the sound stage closer to the driver, but it involves pulling the windshield to do. Heck, even on boats that already have them, the windshield needs to come off just to replace them. You also heave to choose the right speaker. One that fists the depth, the grill doesn't interfere with the windshield and is dark on color so it minimizes the glare off the glass. They also need to be on their own amp chnls, so they be set accordingly to their positional advantage.

I would like to know more details about your current setup, and then we can offer some possible solutions. Number of in-boat speaker, their location, make/model, amp driving them and the amp settings. This info can also help in determining why the highs are weak at upper levels.

A 2V low-level output is sufficient for most system, but a 4V output is always better. The advantage is a cleaner, stronger signal at the amp. This means less clipping into the amp and a lower amp gain setting. A simple line driver can also offer this without changing the head-unit.

i have 4 alpine speakers that came with the boat when i bought it last summer and it also has two bazooka tower speaker. Alpine SPS-M600 I believe. i am wanting to pull the bazooka speakers out and put some alpines in those cause the bazooka sound like crap. i have a memphis 500 watt amp powering them. I don't remember the model number .. its a 4 channel marine amp an older one but not that old.. i've tried turning the amp down and the deck volume up high and it does it and ive also tried the opposite.. Im going to install another amp when i get home on friday for a sub. but i can't figure out why its drowns the high out.. when i turn it up it sounds REALLY good clean clear for about maybe a min then they turn down and sound like crap..

i can get more info when i get home.. model # and everything.. any idea on how the setting should be set at?

Are the tower speakers the Bazooka Tubies or Bazooka coaxial in-boats in generic pods?

Are your current Alpine in-boats powered by an amp or off the head-unit. I think you are hearing the tweeters cut out due to them heating up as a result of a clipped signal. Im guessing the tower speaker are powered by an amp? I would suggest addressing any issues, before adding or replacing gear. What you describe is not normal and is fixable. The more details about your system you can provide, the closer we can get you to a solution. So if you could provide a model number for that memphis 4 chnl and what speakers it may be powering, that would be great.

A line driver is an audio device that will increase the head-unit's output before going to the amp.

Ok soon as i get home and to the boat i will grab all the models numbers for you. the amp is powering everything but the sub.. i am putting another amp i believe its a mono amp just for that. these are my tower speakers now..

I am replacing those because they don't sound good anyways so i think the alpines will sound much better.

The amp is powering all speakers, so the 4 marine alpine speakers and the two bazooka's. i looked at the back of the deck before and nothing is connected to the speaker wires behind the deck i will be home on thursday night and can probably get the rest of the info on friday for ya.. Signal clipped???? is that like not a good connetion?

A clipping signal is basically when the head-unit or amp run out of steam when we crank the volume dial higher and higher to make the speakers louder. Head-units typically clip when the volume is pushed past 75%. If the system is not loud enough, then like Kirk says "Scottie, I need more power" More power will result in more volume with the volume knob at a lower position.

Due to how those Bazooka Tubies are put together, you may find it tough to refit the pods with an aftermarket speaker, like the Alpine. Before purchasing the new speakers, I would take some measurements to see if they will fit. The OD of the alpine is about 6.65 and the cutout is 5.00. I would also consider what you are trying to achieve with your tower speakers. Those Alpine speakers a a good speaker, but they are an in-boat 2-way coaxial. The will sound good close in and around the boat, but will need to solid power behind them to do so being mounted on the tower.

I have also thought about running a separate amp just for the tower speakers to push those alpines. what kind of Deck would you suggest? i would like to be able control it with the wired remote like i have now..

The bazooka's are not the best, but if you run them on their own amp, you might be surprise how they sound. Brothers boat has been running them for prob 6 year now but they have their own amp, so easier to tune them. My only issue with them is they dont project as far as I personally would like them to.

No matter the head-unit brand or quality, every head-unit has a point, a volume level, at which the signal leaving it will clip. This is translated into distortion coming out of the speakers.

So, no, I do not believe you need a new deck. I sell an install that same Sony head-unit and rarely have a clipping issue as a results of its low 2v line-out. If the amps are adequate power fow the speakers and the customer is not expecting more then what the system is able to give and doesnt push the head-unit's volume past its point of clipping, all is good.

That Sony CDX-M60UI is able to interface with a remote. The RM-X60M is all you need. It can actually support 2.

ya i have the remote next to the steerting wheel and love it...

The memphis ape is a mm 4.50 is that helps.. what i did today is install a amp just for the sub.. i also switched my rca wires around to try it out.. i played it ok loud in my neighbor hood to see if it would turn them down and it didn't so i am going to head to the lake tomorrow to see what happens.. i put the tower speakers that are on the MM4.50 to the front rca on the deck and the 4 in the boats to the rear.

For an in-boat, they are average in terms of power handling. No issues at all with these as an in-boat with 2-3 pair. Your current Memphis 16-MM4.50 will do fine to power your 4 in-boat, and would do ok if you decided to add a 3rd pair. As noted earlier, I would rethink placing them on the dash and look somewhere else first.

The amp would deliver 50 watts rms (continuous power) to a single speaker wired to each chnl. If 2 speaker are wired to each chnl, they will receive only 35 watts rms each. In your current configuration, you have the Bazooka towers wired each on their own chnl, so they are each receiving 50W. For the in-boats, you have 1 pair wired to a chnl and the 2nd pair wired to the last remaining amp chnl, so each in-boat is receiving 35W.

I have no issue with the 4 in-boats at 35W each, but a tower speaker at only 50W needs to be addressed. At that point, the in-boats are going to benefit as well. I think you need to consider giving the tower setup their own dedicated amp. This amp choice will be driven by what your tower speaker goals are. This will also dictate what speakers replace, of you choose, the current Bazookas.

There are 2 important amp settings that you need to look into. One is the cross-over filter position/selection. Being a 4 chnl amp, there are two sets of setting, they basically mirror each other. The 2 filter switches need to be set to the "Hi-Pass" position. This switch will most likely have 3 detentes and could be labeled: Low, OFF or Full and Hi. Make sure both switches are set to Hi. Next is the frequency (Hz) setting dial. These dials, 2 of them, need to be set in the 100Hz and 120Hz range. Also, make sure the head-units EQ setting are flat or 0.

Next, you need to decide what you want out of your tower setup.
