Hey Mike, You have helped me out so huge, I figured I'd fire off this question, As you know I have a Volume control for the bow speakers. The dash speakers are IMO way to loud. Would it be best to throw another LC1 volume control at the helm, and split the output once again and run a separate RCA to the 2 channels on the HT-6 designated for the dash speakers?? OR just turn the gain all the way down for those 2 channels, and get use to it being a bit loud.
LOL, now you know why the dash speakers needed their own chnls yes, they are louder due to their close proximity to the driver and their direct reflection off the windshield.

IMPO, I do not see the need to treat them as an independent zone, unless someone really wanted to. So yes, adding another LC would allow you to tone the dash pair down, but the added connections would not be worth it as the gains would accomplish the same thing. I prefer to just gain down the dash speakers until they are balanced with the other cabin speakers and then then call it a day. This may take a couple of trips out on the water while listening as a cruising speed as opposed to adjusting and listening while setting still.

Based on that info, I think I will just order another LC1 volume control and run another set of RCA's so I don't have the "extra" being passed on to the next amp.

It is only 1 pair of channels that gains would be turned down and not all 6 channels on the amp. Could I get by with that.

Also with this hiss business... should I be turning the x overs on low and dial up a higher filter freq closer to the 150 range?

Just dial the gain down on the dash speakers. Thats why they are on their own chnls.

Cross-over frequency has nothing to do with gain hiss. I think some of your gains are too high, but its the large 10" HLCDs that make it the easiest to hear. Gain setting is crucial.

Is there a trick to getting the Wet sounds mic to work??

I plugged the "talk back mic" into the WS420 and it didn't work. After reading the manual which was a bit vague, and after I put the cover back on the boat and tied it down, it dawned on me.....

Does the button on the side of the mike ALSO act as a volume button? It almost seems like the button has a top and bottom somewhat like a rocker type switch?? . i.e. Obviously you have to hold the button in but is there anything else I need to do? I found on a old post that the tower volume has to be around 3/4??

Also when the mic is keyed the music through the towers does not mute?
Problem #1. Music does and should be muted when MIC is keyed up. Is the MIC plugged into the right socket? Its the one thats along side the power harness.

The MICs key only keys up the MIC and mutes the tower music. The MIC volume is controlled on the face of the WS-420SQ

            No battery on the MIC

Tower volume also needs to be up.

Yes its plugged into the wire with the 1/8"plug and not the 1/8"aux in

Regardless of the volume setting of the mic the tower should cut out shouldn't they?

Maybe I didn't have volume turned up high enough

The EQ I have is the 420 not the 420SQ.

Is there any easy way to determine if its the mic or the 420 that is not working properly??

The MIC volume dial has nothing to do with the muting of the music, just the volume when the MIC is in use. If you the music is not muting, nothing else matters at this point. Make sure the 3.5 is fully seated to where you get a "snap". If that plug is not seated, it will not mute the music and it will not talk back.

Your WS-420 also has a MIC volume dial, but its irrelevant until the music mutes.

So I contacted wet sounds and what I was told was they couldn't ship warranty replacement to Canada. So... As impatient as I am I ordered a new 420 SQ. I wasn't prepared to wait to mail it in test, wait, wait, and go with no stereo. I'll just have to flog the 420 on the classified forum once they replace mike or replace with a brand new SQ.

                    Q. Will I have to adjust all the gains and fine tune again once I swap out the 420 for the 420SQ? or just plug and play? I'm suspecting it will have to be set up from scratch???

From reading the manual there are internal gain adjustments?
