    New head unit

My stock Clarion unit on my 2004 24V, the remote controlls have quit working and I am contemplating putting a new head unit with two new remote controls. I do have satellite radio and a CD player in my current unit and want to keep both as well as an I-phone hookup. Do any of you have any suggestions to what might give me the most bang for my buck? Was thinking about a Sony unit but not sold on any particular unit or manufacturer.

I'm thinking of making the jump from my current Pioneer setup to an Alpine. I too would like to hear some input from the smart guys (Mike, Tim, etc.)
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

The head unit I was thinking of using is a Sony CDX-H910UI with two RMX60M remote controls.

I have a different Sony head unit but have the RXM60M remotes and have no real comlaints. The remote takes a little getting used to because it doesn't control 100% of the iPod functions but it does a pretty good job.

CD player or CD multi-disc Changer? If you have a Clarion CD chnager, it will not work if you change brands and it may not function with all of the current Clarion units.

SAT: If you SAT receiver is the Clarion SIR-CL1, it to, will not work with another brand, but I believe it will work with the current Clarion head-units.

Are you looking for dedicated Apple Ipod interface or just USB?

Clarion offers what you seek in the CMD7, CMV1 or M309

The Sony CDX-910UI is a solid unit that offers both rear USB and AUX. The Sony remotes come with the needed splitter cable for multiple remotes. This Sony Unit will offer the best MP3 control from the remote as compare to the other Sony marine units.

The Alpine CDA-118M is an AWESOME unit and the Alpine remotes offer the best Ipod interface control IMO. The 118M offer USB, Apple specific and AUX. The Alpine remotes are RF, put still need a B+ and GND to operate. The Alpines are also SAT ready and will work with either the Alpine SAT receiver or an aftermarket like the Audiovox XM receiver. The Alpine also offer a bluetooth receiver and HD as well.

The 9886M offer USB for flash drives and some MP3 players and Apple specific, which can be converted to hi-speed AUX with a cable. Uses the same remote kits as the 118M

Do not know a ton about the Kenwood, but many like the MP3 interface on the remotes.

Sample size of 1, but the SIR-CL1 did not work with my M309. Makes the deck go into protect mode and just keep turning off and on.

I have the Alpine CDA-118. Love the stereo but I have always had a problem with the dash remote. I've even replaced the whole unit once. It sometimes just does not work. I'm not sure if this is a problem just I have or what. I wouldn't let it keep anyone from buying the unit. It does or can do whatever you want it to. Great iPod/iPhone interface/ USB. Most units won't let the iPhone charge but this does. I even got the key remote to control it from the beach. That was the seller of the unit for me.

Also the zone volume control is just awesome for controlling the tower speakers separate from your bow/cabin speaker.

Good feedback, thanks. I wasnt sure, but hoped the C-net was the same, but I guess is has changed its pin-outs like the remote DIN plug. The new SAT unit looks to be the SC-C1 and CLA-SC1 kit

Wow, looked up the price on the Alpine CDA-118M and the MC20 remotes and all together it will be right around $800 plus I am a little confused if the remotes are hard wired or not? Thanks for all your help but there are so many things I need for my boat (Mainly a FAE) I don't think I could spring for that type of expense. What do you guys think is the best unit in the same price range as the Sony? I do not have a CD changer, just a CD player.

Does anyone on here have any old remotes that might work with my old Clarion unit that was installed at the factory? That is the main reason I am thinking about replacing my head unit. I know many of you have upgraded your stero's and might have the old stuff junking up your garage.

The Alpine MC-20 needs a B+ and GND to operate, but the commands are sent via a radio frequency signal. This receiver is part of the MC-20 kit. If you are adding on a 2nd remote, then you would purchase just the MC-2, which is just a wireless remote.

I have a older clarion and my remotes quit working as well but they didn't go bad I just needed to clean the connections where the remotes plug into the Y adapter. Have you checked all your connections? Might be worth a try

Does anyone know if the Alpine CDA117 will run the MC20 remote?
