request suggestions for enclosure of WS XS12" sub

I am replacing the 10" open sub on our 2009 RZ2 with an XS12. And I need an enclosure. I would really appreciate any advice.

First, any opinions re ported or closed enclosure?

Second, what are the different places others have put a 12" with enclosure. I recall seeing one mounted in front of the driver footwell wall, which would be fine if it made a little foot rest shelf .

Our RZ2 has a heater that may complicate placing the enclosure behind the driver footwell wall. Any experience there.

    Thanks!

I'm in the middle of installing a 12" jl sub in the drivers footwell of my 22ve(think it's the same basic interior). I raised the medallion unit up about 1.5" to make room for the sub, and it will make a footrest when done. think it ended up being around 23" long, 13" deep and 14" tall iirc and has a drop in the back to access the medallion panel once installed. pics to follow once the install is done.

I think most of the audio guys will tell you to install the sub there for the best results. stuffing it in the pass. compartment will muffle some of the sound.

the heater is in the way on my boat as it's on the other side of the panel for the electrical and it made the install somewhat more difficult. without the heater, I would have cut into the space in front of the dash, but didn't feel like relocating or moving the heater forward. not sure what tige does with the heater/medallion stuff if you have the upgraded stereo as I can see the outline for the cutout for the factory wetsounds sub and 6.5" coax.

The XS-12 will work well in either a sealed or ported as it doesnt really lean one way or the other. If you go ported, keep in mind that the Syn-2 has a fixed subsonic filter that will play into the port volume and tuning frequency.

By all means, place the sub under the helm, rather then in an enclosed locker, as this would require a large vent, or you end up with an output that about like reducing the power by half. You should be able to move the heater asm a little, if needed.

We've had the XS 12 in a sealed and ported enclosure and I much prefer the ported enclosure.

What frequency was the ported enclosure tuned to?

Does the better sound quality of a sealed enclosure not stack up against the need for loudness in a boat?
