replacing the head unit with this!

I really don't want a head unit. Can I use this!

I would run the headphone jack/RCA adapter from my iPod to the input of the crossover, then have my outputs run to the amp. One amp for towers and in boats, the other for sub.

Since most modern amps have internal cross-overs, i think you would be better served to do with something like the Kicker ZXM-RLC Dual Zone Volume Controller and Line Driver. 9V line out per chnl and its marine built.

I did that same thing, kinda. Instead of a cross-over I used an EQ. Which I didn't really need either except I wanted the WS-420 just for the microphone.
My new boat, I'm going with something like that Kicker Zone control instead. The microphone was really cool but my wife got tired of me asking girls on other boats to show me their nature.
      Waiting for another good one!

You have to switch it up a little. "Show me your Hips" sounds funny, and "Show me where babies feed". takes them a second to get it then they laugh.

that kicker peice looks like a good option. On WW they suggested just a clarion EQ that has front, rear, and sub outputs. I like that the kicker is marine grade though.

Just go with equalizer as it can do way more than what you proposed. You can adjust volume, fade speaker zones, change sub crossover and bass boost, as well as input from iPod and has 5 band equalizer to boot. I have arc audio and works great Running multi channel amp and dedicated subwoofer amp (sub outs are included on the equalizer). Just left the stereo reciever hooked up but always use iPod for music.
