In principal we can wire multiple speakers together, even if they have a different nominal impedance. In your case, you are working with three 4 ohm speakers in two pods. The DBL is two speakers wired in parallel (+ to +/- to -) so to = a 2 ohm load. Amplifiers are designed to work within a designed impedance (speaker load), so we have to work with in that range in order to have the amp run happy. If we apply a load outside of what the amp can handle it will run hot and in most cases, drop into a protect-mode. In a worst case, it will cause the amp to eventually fail. So, with your given scenario, your only workable configuration would be to wire the new speaker in series with the existing 2 ohm DBL. This will net you a safe 6 ohm load at the amp.

Two things happen at this point. 1) the amp's output drops considerably at 6 ohm. 2) Each speaker wired together on a an amp chnl shares the available power. In a series/parallel config, the 3 speakers do not divide the power equally, especially when you have dissimilar speakers like a pair of coaxial and a single HLCD.

In your case, I would suggest leaving the 2 ohm DBL's on the amp chnls they currently occupy, and wire the new HLCD's to their own amp chnls. This can be accomplished with either two 2-chnl amps or a single 4-chnl amp. The trick to a single 4-chnl amp is going to be finding one that will supply ample power to the 4 ohm HLCD's without overpowering the coaxial 2 ohm DBLs. Both JL and Alpine have some amps that produce the power per chnl at both a 4 ohm and 2 ohm.

Alpine PDX-F6 comes to mind with 150W x 4 @ 2 or 4 ohm or the JL HD600/4 with the same specs. Depending on your budget, you may find a pair of 2 chnl amps for the price of either of these, but you cant beat the quality.

What amp do you currently have and where were you intending to use them? You may be able to utilize one for one pair of tower speakers and then pick up a 2nd to power the other pair.

Honestly, if you want to best utilize the new HLCD's, run them bridged on that JBL MA600.4. This will deliver 160W rms to each, which is what they need.

What model Polk sub do you have? let me look into how best to use the Bazooka 2 chnl and the Boss 4 chnl. The above may change.

Ok, let me look up that sub in the AM, as my weekend has started already

yes, a sub in a box always trumps a free-air sub. But when done correctly, an Infinite-Baffle sub can yield good results and some boats are perfect candidates for an infinite-baffle sub without some drastic mods.

Yes, the in-boats could be powered off the head-unit, but realistic wattage will be more like 15-18 watts rms. You would be better served to feed them with some amplified power.

Im not following exactly what your are saying, so I try to answer in a way that may help you.

1st) 14ga wire is perfect for an in-boat speaker.

2nd) If you are going to power the 4 in-boats off the head-unit, then each speaker needs its own 2-conductor speaker wire making a home-run from the speaker to the head-unit.

Lets start with the Polk woofer. Polks website indicates that the DB1040DVC is best suited for a sealed enclosre with a net volume of .66cu/ft. The manual actually states running is infinite-baffle voids warranty. I cant find the woofer's displacement, so id say that if the enclosures gross volume was .85-1.0 ft3, you would be good.

On your boat, building an enclosure either means move the batteries to the port locker or loose leg room under the helm. To maintain an infinite-baffle install, you would do best to replace the polk with a sub thats better suited for it.

Now, lets say everything, amps and speakers wise, is going to stay as is. Here is how I would configure it:

As noted earlier, run the new Bazooka 6.5 HLCD's bridged on the JBL600/4. This would net them 160W rms.

Run the 4 in-boats on the Bazooka CSA-2. This would net each about 25W rms each. Port pair wired in parallel on chnl 1 and starboard wired parallel on chnl 2.

On chnls 3/4 of the Boss MR1000, I would run the Polk bridged. The 4 ohm DVC sub will need to be wired in series, so the bridged load is 8 ohm. This nets a 200W rms for the sub.

On chnls 1 and 2 of the Boss MR1000, I would wire each Bazooka 6.5 DBL to its own chnl. This will net 250W rms to each pod. This is VERY strong power for those Bazookas, so tuning is crucial.

No. The internal amps on a head-unit will not allow for this. They can only run as individual chnls with a minimum impedance of 4 ohm.

On Jason's 21i, we used the Wet Sounds SW-10FA. The "SW" series the the closed Sportsman series and the "XS" is the silver spoked grill. Same subwoofer, just different look and grill.

Kicker CVR-10 (not specifically designed for infinite-baffle, but does well)
JBL MPS1000 Self-powered sub (have no actual experience with)

Theres plenty of room for 3 amps and an amp rack, on the outside wall of the port storage locker. Doing a 3 amp install from nearly scratch, this is where i would mount them.
