    Head Unit Advice?

I'm looking to replace my Clarion XDM3 in order to get something with USB connectivity. If my CMRC1 remotes would have any functionality (possibly song skip?) with a newer Clarion USB receiver, I'd probably consider buying another Clarion - does anyone know the answer to this?

Also, is there a significant benefit to 4V output versus 2V output head units?

Finally, is it preferable to have a six channel RCA out (allowing for two to the cabin, two to the sub and two to the tower) v. a four channel RCA out unit and having to split one of the outputs in order to cover cabin, sub & tower?

Thank you in advance for any input or brand/models to consider.

Its my understanding from a Clarion marine distributor, that the older gen CMRC remotes will not work on any Clarion units past the CMD5. USB was introduced on the CMD6, along with the new gen MW remotes.

So, to get USB and have remotes, you would need to replace both head-unit and remotes. Or, go with an interface cable such as the Metra AIP-CL-ID that plugs into the Clarion C-Net port. Its not USB, but Ipod specific w/3.5MM plug as well.

I amo also shopping for new head unit and remotes. The Clarion M502 looks very interesting with built in Bluetooth, Aux, and USB. It is not watertight like the cmd6 and cmd7 but splash proof.

Anyone have feedback on the M502?

Also, cmd6 vs cmd7? Seems stainless steel chassis and cnet are the only difference and cmd7 is cheaper

I like the Sony I pod tray that I just installed. It's only a 2 volt output but it's very nice to drop in a I pod or phone I can also use a USB device also. I've had good luck with the remotes aswell.

does anyone have any experiance with the M502. It is pretty inexpensive and that leave some extra money to buy the remots.

I upgraded from the XDM1 to the CMD6 last year, and I love it. The ipod interface could use some improvement, but my workaround for this is simply to have my playlists put together in advance. I went with the CMD6 over the CMD7 as it has a few more upgrade options for later on. It's connected to a Clarion 400 watt amp and a JL 400 watt amp. One amp is push the 4 Clarion speakers in the boat and the Clarion 10" sub and the other amp is pushing the 4 speakers on the tower. The rest of the system will be upgraded this winter as I'll be upgrading the tower speakers and amps. Don't have plans for the speaks inside the boat at this time. If you do go with a Clarion upgrade, check for remote compatibility. This is one thing that I missed, and an upgrade to the MW1 remote was required (2 remotes, cable, and cable splitter to allow for 2 remote install - added about another $250 to the cost).
