    Help with WS 420 install.

I am getting ready for the stereo upgrade. Looking for help with ideas and suggestions on placement and wiring for the complete set up. Syn4, WS420 and Rev10s.

The Syn4 Amp will replace a Kicker one. Any suggestions on mounting?

The 420 will be over at the helm. Ideas on where would be a good place to mount? How about the RCA cable runs? Any specific needs or type I should consider?

Rev10s on tower. Any specifics I should consider there?

The port side walk-thru wall where the current amp is mounted is an idea spot as there is a glassed in composite board behind the carpet.

You will need a 14ft RCA to reach form the head-unit to the helm, then about 10ft going back. You will need a total of 4 - signal, in-boat, tower and then sub. You fish them through the bilge by coming up with the steering cable on the helm side and by the bilge vent hose hole in the port locker. I would also pull my B+, GND and remote turn-on at the same time. The B+ and GND need to terminate along with the amp's B+ and GND so they share the same battery source.

If your boat came from the factory with tower speakers, I think it was 12ga wire that was used. You should be good, unless you wanted to pull new. Hopefully the spacing will be ok to mount the Revs over the current wire holes. If not, you can get some chrome or stainless plugs to dress the holes of you have to relocate the existing wire.

Forgot to mention that you can route the rca's down thru the floor where the steering cable goes and back up into the storage area under the glove box where the bilge vent hose is. Pretty easy with a fish tape. Mine also has a second panel attached to the inside wall under the carpet to mount the amp to. I would think yours would be the same.

Do the cables going to and from the WS420 need to be of a special kind. Like shielded or of a heavier gauge or anything.

Since I am going to install a master switch at the helm for the stereo system can I just hook the B+ to that and use the ground buss under the helm for the WS420?

In RE to the RCA cables....no, you do not need a special kind or any heavy gauge. Just by a qulity set, but they do not need to be the top of the line most expensive. In most cases, you are paying for a name.

The B+ you will be using to power th head-units remote turn-on may not share the same battery source as the head-unit and amp. Since the WS-420 is a major components is the signal path of the stereo, it needs to share the same source as the head-unit and amps. Since you will be running RCA's and a turn-on wire, I would recommend pulling a wire for the WS-420's B+ and GND. These can come off either one of the amps or the distrobution block.

I just yanked out my head unit all together and run the 420+iPhone as my head unit. (I need a better faceplace for the 420 though)

                  Waiting for another good one!

14ft if you cab get it snaked through the bilge or 20ft if you have to go around the bow.

You can snag some cables from Monoprice

$5.67 for a 15 ft RCA...they do charge shipping but their prices are otherwise ridiculously low for cable.

I'm a big fan of monoprice, but not their rcas for mobile audio. The rcas have very thick insulation and are difficult to work with in tight spots. Personally, I much prefer the stinger rcas from darvex.com. Just a hair more expensive but infinitely easier to work with.

                            rca cords

might be a dumb question but does it make any difference going with a 6 channel rca cord for 3 amps or just stick to 2 channel cords for ws 420 going through bow of boat. thanks

Thanks for the advice. I've not run their RCAs in tight spots, only their 3.5 to RCA for aux input purposes. Thanks for the site, haven't run across that one yet.
