    deck cutting out

just finished installing the subs in my boat, haven't had it out yet this year, and if i turn it up too loud the deck powers down for a second. With the subs turned down it can go louder without cutting out but when i put the booster on the battery it was still doing it. Its a jl 600w amp my tower speaker amp isn't hooked up and I haven't put a second battery in yet but i plan to. I'm wonderin if a cap would fix this or even just when its in the water running getting charged by the alternator it'll still do it.....or Ive got something screwed up in the wiring

Mine is doing the same thing when turned up. Was out yesterday when it did it. Had it up tonight on the trailer and yep did it again. I figure it's because the power wire to the stereo is very small and the way it connected to the ignition is the problem will do a rewire of that with a relay off the ignition in the next couple days. I'll let you know how it go's.

Thanks for the plug Jason Did you get that speaker swapped out ok?

        Nismo,
Does your 07 have the Tige EIDB dual battery setup? If so, I would suspect a dead and possibly bad battery. Dead meaning depleted and just needs recharged, bad meaning it will not accept a suitable and maintain a charge and will need replacing.

        Weez,

What boat model/year do you have? Again, if its got the Tige EIDB dual battery setup, I would suspect a battery. Depending on the year, the amps are wired to the house battery and the head-unit is wired to the main cranking. So even with the charger on the house, the cranking will not be receiving a charger.

And no, you will not need a CAP.

Just tossing out some speculation, but having some additional details will help. This is the time of year where we discover our dead batteries. If not maintained during the winter months, they will freeze and then will not return to service.

Yes, bass notes can create a spike in the current draw. If the battery is low, it can cause the voltage to drop below the threshold of the head-unit or amp, and it will power down.

They can also power down, but actually go into a protect mode, due to a shorted speaker or speaker lead.

No dual batteries yet! The wire gauge suppling the deck is very thin about half the size of what's on the back of the deck someone else did that and I will be replacing the wire got some 12 gauge wire today to repull and hook up to a relay off the ignition. I hope that's the problem. I need all that working properly before the new stereo equipment go's in

12ga wire from the head-unit to the B+ source on the head-units yellow and BLK wires is perfect and 14ga would be sufficient. But there is no need for a relay at the key switch. All the key switch does is give a 12V turn-on signal to the small red wire on the head-unit. It carries no load and is the same function as the amps remote turn-on the head-unit sends to the amps on the blue wire.

If a new system is going and it includes amps, I wouldn't rewire the dead-unit just yet. Reason being, that yellow B+ and black GND wires will be best suited to terminate at the one of the amps or the distrobution blocks. I dont want to stop you from finding and fixing the current issue, but hate to see you do a lot of rewiring now, then redo in the near future.

I would still test the battery and also do a wiggle test on the harness. See if you can induce the problem by moving the harness.

Yep the yellow wire is ran form the existing amp and part of it's just as small. So the red power wires is just turn on but the yellow is actual power umm nice to know I also want to redo the ground. Heck I think I'll just redo all of them. The battery is charged I checked that first when we brought the boat in form the delta Saturday. Going out again this weekend so I want it to work well before it go's in for full stereo.

As normal thanks for your help chp

                    Thanks chp!
Rewire the deck started with the turn on wire (red) then went to constant power (yellow) after all that found a better ground and then it worked. Always the last wire.

Weez check your grounds. Hope you find your fix!
