Clarion MW1 Remote Troubleshoot

I have the Clarion CMD6 with the MW1 remote. The head unit works great, but I am having some issues with the remote. The remote screen shows everything correctly (i.e. when I turn the volume up on the head unit, you can see the adjustment being made on the MW1 screen). However, the buttons on the remote will not control the head unit, the power button, volume, nothing will work. Is there a setting or something on the head unit that I need to change in order for this to work? I have read through the manual and cannot find anything to fix it.

Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?

I have the Sony set up just like the clarion and it took about five minutes for it to connect and start to control the head unit the first time I turned it on. Don't know if that will help

Well I had it on for 20 minutes or so, tried powering it on and off a couple times, also removing the cable from the remote and the head unit... none of these fixed the problem.

after further investigation, I think the head unit might be bad.

Is the problem solved and, if yes, what have you done. I have exact the same problem. .
