    **Need Help**

Ok so I have a 2002 pre 2200i. I am wanting to replace just the boat speakers and get some tower speakers next year. I have been looking at the JBL MS6200 6.5s. Anyone heard these speakers??? If not what would you suggest??? I cannot justify paying the money for the wet sound stuff.

I was thinking of getting 3 pairs of them and running them with a New Polk PA660 amp that was given to me. Also I thought about adding the JBL MPS1000 sub woofer under the drivers console. Thoughts on this setup???

I am here in Oklahoma and there are few store around here that carry marine speakers that you can listen to which makes it tough to make a educated decision.

Also when I bought my boat last year it had only one battery. I now have 3 batteries but I am not sure if I need to use all three or just two and I am not sure how to hook them up. Pretty sure I need a isolator but I have also seen a lot of talk about on board chargers. Not too sure how they work.

Need someone who is savvy to shed some light on my problem please. Thanks for your advice in advance. Thanks
    Chris

Chpthrl has heard them all. I'm sure he'll chime in for you.

However... it all depends on how much you want to spend. Your budget is the big factor!!!!!! Myself I have had some less expensive Polks, and higher end Wet Sounds and Kickers on the tower. I dont regret the Kickers I have on the tower!! They sound great

Wet Sounds, Kicker, Polks, for the cabin?? I'm partial to Kickers and Polks.

I have 3-27 series batteries in my boats and I power a Kicker 350.4, 450.2 and a sony amp for my sub. I have never had a issue with power failure. Every night when we pull the boat out of the water I plug in a on board 3 bank charger. I just didnt want to get into the isolator thing and worrying about if the alternator can take it. Just seemed to me the easiest was the on board charger.

Just remember that you will always get good service from a authorized dealer. I would be careful with ebay stuff. Also when you have problems or Q's just log on to the stereo page. Good Luck

The PA660.4 will be fine for 3 pair of in-boats.

I had a prospective customer with his boat in the shop last week that bought one of those JBL powered subs. There was no why it was going to fit anywhere in his boat, so I cant say I have listened to one. Cant comment on the JBL in-boats either.

IMO, 2 batteries with an isolator in a boat is a must and is a plus if you like to spend time listen to the tunes with the engine off. A 2 battery bank for the stereo will give you additional play time, but you will not be able to rely on your alternator to replenish the stereo bank. Your alt is probably a 65A at most. A good 2-bank charger is a good idea if you have access to power where the boat is stored.

You can do a simple multi-battery manual switch, use a Diode type isolator, or a switch and ACR/VSR automatic iso/combiner setup. They will all accomplish that same basic function.....isolate the stereo bank from the main cranking leaving you a fresh battery to crank up and go home.

Sh how exactly would you hook up the speakers to the amp since there is 6 channels on a 4 channel amp??

the pair in the bow will each get there own chnl - 1 and 2. The port main cabin pair get wired in parallel (+ to +/- to -) on chnl 3 and the starboard main cabin pair get wired in parallel on chnl 4.

I haven't done speakers in 10 years so I have forgotten. So do I put two wires in each plug of the amp or do I go from the amp to the first speaker and then to the second??? Sorry. Lol

I also just looked at this amp and it has two RCA jacks one for font and one for rear. With no output. So does that mean I am screwed for running another amp later?? Cause I think my HU only has 2 outputs.

Either, but in most cases, its far easier to just run from the amp to the first speaker, then daisy-chain to the 2nd. 99% of the time, there is no need to run a dedicated wire from the amp to the speaker.

Some amps will pass through the signal to all chnls with only single RCA set, if not, then just split them with a couple Y cables. This leaves your 2nd output open for another amp.

You need to let the space available dictate the sub and then the sub will dictate the amp. Buying a sub then making an enclosure that fits the space and not necessarily fits the sub, if kinda putting the cart before the horse.

If your under helm bulk-head wall is a continuous wall that will completely isolate the front of woofer from the back, then yes.

But, for the same price and same power handling, you can get the M10W5 and build a nice 1.0cuft enclosure and have a better performing sub. But as noted above, whats the available space under the helm and in the starboard mid-ship locker. if executed correctly, IB is decent and easy.
