Tower of Power Rev 8.....how does it work?

I have the Tower of Power Rev 8 system coming. In the tige touch, is there an easy way to control the tower and in boat speakers seperately?
Or do I need a WS420?

If I do need the 420, where do I put it to make it look factory? How does it wire in to tige touch?


I had the 420 in my malibu and it was nice to control them individually.

To my knowledge, "Fade" is not yet available in the TT, but has been talked about. You would need to use the Fade on the head-unit.

A peripheral device like the WS-420 would be needed if you wanted zone control at the drivers seat. It would still be interfaced with the Head-unit via RCA cables, same as your installation before. it will change how the system is used through the TT though.

So "Fade" is now available through the TT, so drivers do not need to go through to the clarion head-unit in the glove box? Rick C and I talked about at the boat show last year, and he indicated that it was being looked into. Mind sharing with the forum?

I like to be able to adjust the in boat speakers and the towers seperately. I figured as advanced as the TT is, and the marriage with wetsounds, they would have a simple way on the screen to adjust the volume to the diff speakers.

Anyone make a nice panel to mount the WS420 if it cant be done via the TT?

Its not really Wet Sounds and the Medallion Tige Touch interfacing, its Clarion allowing it. It will require the data link between the Clarion head-unit.

So if its the clarion....then its not adjustable as needed from the helm?

In the 2011's, there is no way to fade b/w tower and boat speakers from the TT. I dont know if they changed it for 2012, but even if there was an interface on the TT that allowed for it, I think it would be much too slow to be effective. Pressing the touch buttons once at a time would, in my opinion, just take too much time to be effective for fading.

That's why I went with the Wetsounds 420, and I love it. The 420 allows for very quick transitions from boat to tower and everything in between (it's not really a fader -- you are actually changing the volume on each set of speakers separately). Plus, it allows for immediate adjustment of trebel, bass, and sub, which is very helpful when your playlist jumps between songs needing different levels of these. After one season, I am totally sold on it.

As far as the install, my dealer mounted it just below and flush with the dash to the right of the steering wheel. It looks great, and provides very easy access for the driver. I think I have pics of the install at home, which I'll try to remember to upload when I get back.

One other big advantage to the 420 is the ability to plug an iPod into the accessory jack. You can then switch between the main input (which the Clarion headunit is plugged into) and the accessory input. When the iPod is plugged into the Clarion headunit, controlling it through the TT is painfully slow. It's virtually impossible to scroll through any lengthy list on the iPod. Having the 420 near the driver allows you to run a cord from the accessory input that you can plug the iPod into, and have the iPod near the driver. You can then switch to that input (with a simple switch on the front of the 420). This allows you to have the iPod right there at your fingertips and scroll through the music using the iPod itself, while controlling the volume with either the iPod or the knobs on the 420. This is great when you want to be able to change songs or playlists quickly. The only disadvantage is that it plugs in through the headphone jack, so it doesn't charge the iPod. But, when you want to charge the iPod (or just want to listen to it through the headunit so you can use the TT or the wired or wireless remotes), you can just plug it back into the headunit and flip the switch on the 420.

One other thing I forgot to mention. The 420 comes with a microphone that runs through the tower speakers. At first, I thought this was kind of a gimmick, but we actually have used it a couple of times to instruct newbies or just to yell crap at riders to screw with them a little.

I think the 2012 boats have input for ipod to the right of the TT. Id love to see the pics of the ws420 install. On my malibu i had it to the left of the driver mounted vertically..seemed to work nice.

Although I haven't been down to the lake to check, I am hoping to put mine in the location I have shown. Just not sure if there is enough depth there to work with. I have a 1/2 din mounting plate that it will fit in. I plan to sandwich a piece of clear acrylic with led's between the mounting plate and boat side panel. I will post up pictures down the road if it is possible.
