    Quick wet sounds advice please

    All,
I found someone selling his equipment and want to pick up one or the other. I have no interest in both because it would be overkill for the system I'm building.

    2 pro 80's for $650
    Pro 485 for $550

Which choice would be best "individually" and why?

The rest of the system is going to be kicker 10", 4 in boat Polk 6", kicker 700.5, and tower amp undecided.

Want to jump this asap so input would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Brian

I think the 485 might be the best choice, you get the 8" drivers plus a horn. I think the 485 has more bass to it too, might be wrong.

Well, the pro-80's have 8" drivers, too. But because of the coaxial horn coming through them, the 485 would have more surface area. Plus, it sure looks like the 485 enclosure is larger than the combined volume of the -80's. So it would make sense that the 485 has better bass.

First off, what are your goals, what are your listening preferences?

Although the Pro485 does sound good by its self, it just wasn't built to be a stand-alone tower setup. Not saying it cant though.

I would go with all or the Pro80's by themselves. Is he parting with some amps as well? If not, a good 2 chnl that will deliver 200W RMS plus or minus is a good target. Or you can bridge a 4 chnl amp and run it in 2 chnl mode and look for one that will do 200W plus x 2.

If i can hear it on the rope....cool, but mostly want the quality sound in and around the boat.

any pro/con about 2 chanels for the 80's vs one for the 485???

Is there any way that this gear can still be demo'd or is already off? That is a real tough call. If surfing/party-cove type listening is you goal, then I would almost have to lean back towards the Pro485 just a little, BUT, with the right amp and careful tuning, the Pro80 can put out some nice mid-bass and sound good near-field. When crossed-over low, you just have to not push them hard for a wake-boarder as you would if that was their primary function.

For a Pro485, you can run them bridged on a 2-chnl any where from 400W rms to 600W rms and you are golden!.

It's outta state so no demo....but a reputable seller. I have small kids so there's not going to be a lot of "volume checks" to get back to the rider, unless it's all adults. So mostly cove/swim sessions and moderate volume for everyone in the boat while towing a rider. Hopefully that will make one a standout.

From a sound quality standpoint I like the Pro485 against just about anything.
Continuous midbass cones for more surface area and an airtight pod.
Larger tweeter diaphragm with a larger but shorter horn with a continuous flare.
Overall its a more linear speaker.
