I was wondering what the difference in the Rev8 and the Pro80 speakers are? Considering an upgrade for my tower speakers.

The short answer: Both are an 8" HLCD speaker. The Pro80 is the previous generation speaker and the REV series is the new generation. Even though both are HLCD speakers, there are a few internal differences that make the REV series sooo much smoother to the ear, especially for the near-field listening. The biggest difference in the two is the size of the housing. The REV8 is in an enclosure size that is along the lines of the 6.5" Pro60. The new REV-10 is a 10" in an enclosure thats along the size of the original Pro80.

This gives you the increased power handling and extra mid-bass over the Pro60 all while maintaining about the same head clearance.

Cuurently I have the kickker speakers that came on the boat. They sound tinny to me and worse the louder the volume is. I have adjusted the amps as best I can but am not happy at all. I have found a set of pro 80's localy and they seam to be at a good price. Half of new. just used a short season. When you say "so much smoother to the ear". What do you mean? If there is that much of a difference maybe I should consider saving up more for the rev8's. These have the short clamps with them too.

Not sure what "Short clamps" The Pro80 comes either with the TC2 tube tower clamp, X-clamp witch is for the Illusion and Alpha-Z, Malibu G3 and a Master Craft adapter.

This is where we get into an area where its hard to explain without interjection my own personal feelings on sound quality. So i'll try to explain the difference. First off, the Pro80 set the bar when they where released. But, the typical characteristic of any HLCD is that the highs are very aggressive. The term "bright" is used a lot. The output from the horn is very loud, and can be harsh when listened to near field. Again, this is the nature of the beast as an HLCD is intended to project over long distances. Many times, this natural harshness is perceived as volume, so they are deemed loud.

With the REV series, the typical harshness of the aggressive horn has been tamed, but without reducing the power handling or projection. So this is what makes them seem smoother to the listen when close in.

After reading reviews and what others have said. Pro80 is out. At the time of release they probably were the best for that situation. But all things considered the Rev. series are in my future. Just got to decide which one.
