    Clarion CMS1 question

I like the CMS1 because of the expandability and remote but it only has one set of RCA out in the back. If I'm running two amps can I just use a splitter to make it into two. Any negatives associated with doing this?

Should I stay with a standard deck with front and rear output?

Based on that link, it actually doesnt have any Pre-amp out RCA's, only a set of AUX in, but the picture shows at least two sets of RCA's. I see a set with red leads, thats deff the AUX IN. The other set looks black, that's Pre-amp.

*EDIT* Ok, quick check at my Clarion source, and it does look like it has one AUX IN and one set of Pre-Amp outputs. Splitting is ok, but running that output through an EQ or zone control device would be ideal. A peripheral device would give you some advantages like a line driver.

So would it be better to find a replacement deck that has 2 pre amp outs? I really like the remote on the cms1 but it's not a deal sealer.

Splitting RCA's is not a bad idea, just not ideal. Adding in a peripheral device only requires a single left and right RCA output from the Head-unit, so the others would go unused anyway.

Alright. Can you give me an example of a device that would work for my build up.

Single RCA output from the source unit goin to:
Kicker 700.5 ( which has amp1 amp2 and sub input ) running 4 two way interior speakers and a 12 inch sub
Kicker 450.2 ( just one set of in and one set of out ) running kmt60's on the tower

          Thanks,

          Brian

So even though the 700.5 has 3 different inputs I'll only need to use one line output for it, and the other goes to the 450.2?

The WS-420 has a tower out (to the 450.2) a boat out (to the 700.5 AMP1 INPUT) and a sub out (which you can also run to the 700.5 SUB INPUT). If you set the fader button to off you can run all 4 channels off the AMP1 input.

So you just use the 1 input from the HU and the EQ will split it 3 ways.

With the kicker it's only dual zone so you'd just run 1 set of RCAs to the 700.5 (AMP1) and set the sub input on the amp to use the AMP1 input instead of the Sub input and then run the other set of RCAs to the 450.2

Awesome.....thanks for the help. Amazing how you can stare at a product manual for an hour and not see the
Sub input button until someone tells you what it should be set to. Things have come a long way since my last stereo project!

With the Sub Level Controll available (could already be there if the 700.5 was OEM) for the 700.5, the ZXM-RLC would give you 3 zones: In-boats, tower and sub.

Depending on what year/model 700.5 amp that is, it may only need one set of RCA cables to supply a signal to all four full-range chnls or you might need to split that cable into both "Amp-1" and "Amp-2" RCA inputs.
