    Kicker KMT60's on standard tower?

Does anyone know if the KMT60's will fit on a standard 06 20i tower? I don't think I have enough of a straight section to mount the set.

Also...I like the way they look on the speaker side but do they look like cheap plastic pods on the forward side?

I'm looking to make it sound better in and around the boat and not too worked about projecting back to the rope. If I can't fit the 60's I'm also thinking of a single wet sounds 485.

    Inputs would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Brian

Yes, they will fit. I have a set on an 07 20V and they fit side by side just fine.

Nothing cheap about them, but yes, they are plastic pods. These are good sounding speakers....great bang for your buck.

Thanks chpthril....I was hoping you give your opinion. So would a kicker zx350.2 be a good match for them?

I think that'd be a bit light. They claim 300W max/150 RMS. Mike or Phil would probably have the best suggestion for powering those.

You in the right neighborhood by thinking 2 chnl, but the Kicker 450.2 would be a better match power wise. It delivers 150W RMS @4 Ohms.

K got another one for you guys. I'm going to be using a kicker 700.5 to run my existing Polk in boat speakers and a sub. Since I'm going all kicker with all my additions can you recommend a kicker sub that will go well with the 700.5.

              Thanks

if you want to stay kicker I've seen suggestions for the Kicker Comp VR 10 .. or the Kicker KM10 (as it's their marine specific sub - the Comp is not Marine - but as long as it's installed in a dry location your generally fine). There is also the Wet Sounds XS-10FA. These are all just 10's. I personally don't have a sub yet but will likely put one in soon. Again the sub channel on that amp might be a bit low from a power standpoint and decent subs can take a lot of power. But it'd probably suffice to start? Again I'm sure Mike will chime in with some suggestions.

For a single voice coil 4 ohm sub, that amp will deliver 210 Watts RMS. This is ok output to compliment 4-6 moderately powered in-boats.

With a 4 Ohm Dual Voice coil sub wired in parallel equaling a 2 Ohm load, the 700.5 will deliver 420 Watts RMS. This is very respectable power for an open environment like a boat. It will go nicely with 4-6 in-boats playing a variety of music.

First and foremost, Sub placement and execution will have more to do with its performance, then sub brand and power put to it. I highly recommend placing the face of the sub out in the cabin of the boat. Direct-radiation is soooo much better then choking down a sub by placing it in a storage locker. Let the location and overall dimensions drive the sub choice. As an example, a smaller sub in a proper enclosure will trump a larger sub in a bad enclosure.

So, with said, lets lay some specific Kicker models out there.

KM-10 is a great sounding sub and a perfect match for the 4 Ohm output of the 700.5. It performs well in a 1.0 cu/ft sealed enclosure.

CVR-104 is the only Kicker sub I would consider running in an infinite-baffle (basically no enclosure) install. Its a 4 ohm DVC, so it would be getting the full 420 watts from the amp. I recommend this only because the Tige boats are usually prime candidates for an infinite-baffle type install. This appeals to many because its a fairly simple and straight forward install. The key is to have a solid wall that will isolate the front of the sub from the rear.

CVR-124 is the 12" version the CRV-10. Its best served in an enclosure. It likes about 1.2 ft3 sealed or 1.7 ft3 ported.

New for 2011 is the L3. Power handling wise, its in the neighborhood of the CVR's, so its a good match for your amp. The advantage is that this sub is square, V's round. This gives it a little more surface area then the round CRV. In the sub arena, surface area rules. I would say go with a 12" here as well.

I guess I'll jump in here too - I've got 6 XS-650's in the boat with a pair of pro-80s and a 485 on the tower. None of my current amps have a sub channel but I do have a kenwood kac-9104D I can toss in there for the sub.
                    RMS Power Rating:
                    4 ohms: 500 watts x 1 chan.
                    2 ohms: 900 watts x 1 chan.

what would you suggest to go along with that?

                      In the Kicker camp:
                      CVR-122 (2 ohm DVC) receiving 500W
                      L3-12 (2 ohm DVC) receiving 500W
                      CVX 10 or 12 (4 ohm DVC) receiving 900W
                      L7 10 or 12 (4 ohm DVC) receiving 900W

Wet sounds: Either the XS-12 or the XS-XXX (in a ported enclosure)

                      Exile Audio: Xi12D receiving 900W

I really appreciate the detail in your responses chpthril it really helps out making sound choices. I used to be in to car audio a loooooong time ago and basically can't remember enough to make sound choices without help. I hope to be that helpful to someone one here with something.

So I'll be looking for a dual vc 2 ohm (2 two ohm vc's) to make the most of the 700.5?

I'll ask about wiring it when I get closer to the install.

                          Thanks,

You would want a 4 ohm DCV which is a sub with two 4 ohm voice coils. With the coils wired in parallel (+ to + and - to -) you get a 2 ohm load at the amp yielding 420W.

Got it. I'm going to need to print out this thread and use it as an order form pretty soon.
