Which would produce the best sound for surfing and wakeboarding:
1 pair of XM9s and 1 pair of STXs or 1 pair of XM7s and 2 pair of STXs?

It's my understanding the XM9s give more base and still get the sound out there for the wakeboarder to hear. Therefore my thinking is with a pair of STXs and the XM9s, the sound will still get out to the wakeboarder, but will give the lower base needed to offset the horn in the XM9s (higher pitch). Or is there just not enough base coming out of the XM9s to make up for another pair of STXs? Goal would be to eliminate 2 speakers and have only the 4 on the tower.

Were the XM9s avaliable when you were looking at your options Majestic? If so, did you look at the above idea including the XM9s and what made you go with combination you have? Was it just simply better sound quality or something else?

I really appreciate you guys giving your opinions on this. Thanks
If you went with the XM9 and SXT setup, I would suggest each on their own amp for the purpose of tuning.

The XM9 is an 8" HLCD, so yes, it will produce more mid-bass then the XM7. I have not listened to a pair of SXT's and XM9's together, but my feeling is they would not blend well. Out of the above comparisons, the 6-pod hybrid is the best option.

**ahem, whistles, I told you so. hehe. Embo, since we've talked about this, I think its great you talk with guys that are actually running the setup and get direct feedback. Majestic can definitely provide that for you. Since many will read this and ask the same questions, Let me layout the options for everyone and the reasons why.

EXILE HYBRID SETUP - this is a 6 speaker tower system requiring the space to install it. As you can see by Majestic's pics, its a LOT of speakers and definitely fills up the tower space. It's designed so the XM7's (horn) is laid out in a A d'appolito configuration on the horizontal plane which combines midranges and tweeters. The upside is it sounds fantastic when the SXT's combined with the XM7's unclose with tons of mid bass punch--- i.e. surf and party cove situations. From afar 80ft and beyond, it also shines well because the horns load up beyond the range of the SXT's. It's really fantastic. All the speakers are quick disconnect so they pop right off and can be aimed front or rear. Spinning them in 360 degrees is limited due to physical tower space. This system needs to be tuned by someone that knows that they are doing.

XM9 HLCD SETUP - This setup is aimed at the guy that wants 4 speakers that work all around. As an oversized driver, you'll gain increased bass, and also output projection. The XM9 is a very punchy speaker as compared to other brands on the market. Because of the oversized mid bass design, its going to be smoother as compared to the XM7. One could say that its a sound quality HLCD design but trust me, its still all HORN out there at 80 feet and easily has 2x the upper frequency output that the hybrid setup does.

either of these setups can be powered by the Harpoon amplifier. In the NW guys regularly run the hybrid setup up off the one amp but I encourage people to biamp the hybrid setup for guys living in the South---I>E> TEXAS and the like.

Embo - Since your local, you can try both configurations and see what you like or don't. Hope that helps some.

Ok, This has been great. Seems like having only 1 pair of STXs will not quite do the job of equalling the high freqs of the XM7s or the XM9s. A Thank you goes out to you all for helping me understand this better.

If you have the OEM "E" series Tige tower, then you should not have any issue fitting 2 or 3 pairs of large speakers pods like the 8" XM9.

Majestics is the factory Tige "E" series tower.

Two pair of 8" HLCD pods powered by a solid 2 chnl amp or a single full-range mono Like the JL HD750/1 will give you the projection at wake-board range as well as the near-field mid-bass smoothness.

Sorry for the late response but 2 pair of XM-9's would have fit fine. My current set-up is is very close to the Bimini and I'm afraid with the 9's the Bimini would rub on the pods.

That’s my concern I want the xm9’s but don’t want it to rub. If it would stop raining I would pull my boat out and measure it.
How do you like the set up now vs. your old set up?

It's a complete night and day difference. The Bullet set-up was great to carry the sound a long distance but harsh on the ears close up and my current set-up is not harsh while surfing but it can still carry the sound some distance. My biggest need for the change was the removable speakers. The E-series has some wobble to it and it's nice to take the extra weight off when towing.

I am really happy with the decision overall and the quality and service that Exile provides is great. If the XM-9's were available when I did my system I may have gone that route but the next best thing will always be around the corner.

Looks good. Did you originally only have 4 in boats or did you change that when you started you stereo build? Mine came with 6, 2 bow, one under the helm, one behind the drivers seat and two like your third pic.
