    Sony deck turning off/on

I have a sony deck wired to three alpine amps that power a double up, 4 wetsounds interior speakers and a rockford sub. Just this weekend the system would turn off and on. The boat was running and i had switched to both batteries. It was also doing the same thing when the boat was turned off and not moving. I have also had issues where all left speakers cut out. I thought that was from the ipod or connections but when i switched to FM it still only played on half the speakers. Then all of a sudden it would work on all speakers.

Any ideas? do you think i have a bad deck?

Is any part of your stereo stock? The reason I ask is because of the Marine Audio brand RCA cables used by a lot of OEMs. They are notorious for backing apart if not tapped/secured in some way. This can cause what you are describing.

Also, can you tell what, if any, components are actually powering down? If the head-unit goes down, we know the amps go down, etc. Try to wiggle/tug on connectors and harness to see if you can induce the problem.

This was an after factory system installed by dealership. I inspected all wires and didnt see any issues. When the deck turned off the amplifiers were all turned off as well.

Ok, the fact that the deck actually shut down, this gets us in the right direction. I would concentrate on the head-unit's ground, memory (yellow) and red (switched remote turn-on) wires. Inspect at both the head-unit and their source.
