    Houseboat Stereo turning off intermittantly

I have a pIoneer car stereo head unit in the houseboat. It gets a little warm at higher volume and then turns off... then back on.. then off.. then.. on off on...

Is it because the battery is 40 feet away and Im using a too-small wire?
Did I just answer my own question?
    Mike?
    Anyone?
So this monkey walks into a bar...

The wire size shouldn't matter on the head unit unless you went with something like 24 gauge wire... I think?

It only happens after it gets a little warm?
    Waiting for another good one!

It gets a little warm (the heatsink ont he back), and it happens over 18 volume. To me, this indicates the equipment is working too hard. I know an electric motor will run happier with a little extra voltage as opposed to not enough. Imwondering if it's the same with an amp.
I am going to test it by running a larger wire.

There's something else to check out on a houseboat. Usually a houseboat is geared towards heavy AC operation with little emphasis on DC. Past starting and gen batteries it can have a very, very light convertor to maintain the house bank which may only be intended for instrumentation at the helm. So include this possibility in your check list.

How many speakers are you trying to drive off of it?

Its a DEH 3700 MP with 6 car stereo speakers attached. Nothing crazy, just regular 6" coaxials.

David, I built the houseboat. we have very little AC. Just an 800 watt inverter to run my tv. The Microwave and Air run off the genset. The power from the battery switch to the stereo is like 30', and Im thinking it's #10 or #12. Spoke with a buddy who had the same thing happen in his 28' Nordic, and he changed the wire size to an 8, and it quit.

Ding Ding... 6 speakers... Probably wired parallel? The channels with two tied together should be wired in series... Mike was first on diagnosis, and I concur with where he was going...

                It's not an optical illusion.

My suggestion would be to add an amp and not drive the speakers off of your stereo head unit. It will sound better and the head unit will not get so hot.

                          R- Fosgate 550-2

If you want the best tower speakers for the wakeboarder, look no further than Wetsound. Everything else you will not hear if you are 30+ feet behind the boat at speed. You can hear my boat, before you see it.
