Help - Stereo Shuts Off after 2K RPM's

I am having a problem with my head unit completely powering off once the boat hits 2K RPM's or so. It works fine when started and in accessory mode (e.g. Key turned to left). I cranked it up to see if it was something from the amps and all works fine. I also checked my amps and they also power off at the aame speed. The bizarre things is when I slow the boat down the radio automatically comes back on in the Tuner mode regardless if I have the IPod or Sat on at the time.

Any thoughts as to what may be causing this or a series of things to check?

Start by checking the alternator regulation and see if its putting out too much voltage.

David is probably on the right track. Your voltage is probably too high.

How can this happen you might ask... Do you have a battery switch on your boat? I bet the answer is yes...

I am kinda guessing here, but high voltage is a common symptom of accidentally switching your battery swith to, or through the OFF position. This can and often will blow the voltage regulator.

It could be something else, so forgive me if I am wrong... However, if I am right, and we can identify what caused the condition, you will be better prepared to prevent it from happening again.

      It's not an optical illusion.
      It just looks like one.....

What would be considered as High Voltage? Im having the same problem but just my amps are dropping out not the head unit. I noticed my voltage gauge is reading 12V while idling or cruzing very slow (stereo's fine) but once i pick up speed the gauge goes up to about 13V and thats when the amps drop out... shouldn't the voltage always be the same?

15V or higher would concern me.

Depending how many batteries you have and how the batteries and amps are configured, your volt gauge may be reading only one battery/alt output, while the amps are not receiving proper voltage.

Under what conditions do they shut off? Have you confirmed the amps are shutting off or going into protect mode?
