    Which type speakers to add?

Ok looking to add a little more sound to my tower...i believe I currently have pro 60s on the alpha z. Ive basically narrowed it down to wetsounds speakers and wonder which would be the best addition?...another set of pro 60s, pro 80s or mb-8's?? Any suggestions? Oh and i also plan to add the ws-420 to control tower/inboat speakers independently...thanks for any recommendations

Are you looking for more volume or a richer, more fuller sound? Also, knowing which speakers you have currently and what amp is powering them, will play into the decision.

Lets assume you have the typical OEM setup of Prop60's powered by the Syn2.
*Adding a 2nd set of Pro60's would give you a bit more volume.

*Swapping the Pro60's for a set of Pro80's would give you a little more output plus some added mid-bass.

*Im a huge fan of the Double-Up (60's with MB8's), just dont like to do this setup on the same 2 chnl amp. If you cant tune the two different types of speakers independently, then one pair will be compromised in some way.

*Im dont like to recommend running the 60's and 80's together. The 60's are just a smaller version of the 80's, so if the 80's are properly powered, the 60's tend to get "lost" in the output of the 80's. Building from scratch, I tell peeps looking at this route to go with the 80's and MB8's because the cost is about the same. Its a little different for you since you already have the 60's. I also do not like running the 60's and 80's on the same 2 chnl amp for the same reasons I dont like running 60's and MB8 on the same 2 chnl amp. To get the most out of the larger speaker, you end up crossing over the amp to a point of over driving the smaller speaker with mid-bass. To prevent over driving the smaller speaker, you end up not utilizing the larger speaker to its potential.

Just my opinion from listening to the various setups, others thoughts will very.

Thanks a ton...think im going to go with the mb-8. i have a 2011 22Ve that came with what im assuming is the basic set up. Believe its a syn2 and syn6 but dont hold me to that. Obviously my knowledge of amps, speakers, etc is very limited but should i decide to add the mb-8 what type of amp set up would be ideal to get the most out of the entire system?

      Thanks in advance..

        mooney08,
I have to agree 100 percent with everything that Mike said and really like the way it was phrased. Very accurate info. So you are on the right track.
You can run a classic Double-Up with a Syn4 but at 4 X 125 watts its light for HLCDs. The Syn6, converted from six to four channels, is really the right choice in the Wetsounds amplifier line.

Like David said, the Syn6 in 4 chnl mode is ideal power wise for the 60/MB8 double-up. If shear projection of sound is not your overall goal, then I would not hesitate to recommend the Syn4.

They really need to get a 485 on an alpha z tower. I am hoping they come out with a rev series 485.
Why not look at the Rev 8 from wetsounds. I love mine. They work on the alpha, sound great and are and 8in speker in a pro 60 size can so you save head room. I know Dave can comment about a side by side comparrison he did. I read his write up on WW (great info as always from him).

Is the MB-8 and the REV-10 in the same size can? Would they look the same from the outside other than the grills? How would these two speakers work together?

                    zany,
Its not necessarily logical to use a 10-inch Proaxial coupled to a dedicated midbass speaker with a "smaller" 8-inch cone. Eventually you will see an expansion of the Rev line-up but the specifics are not for me to share and I'm certainly not privy to all that is coming.
The pods are basically the same but the shape of the front bezel is very different. Both use the same basic grill pattern but with a new three-dimensional flare on the Rev products. You might not notice much of a difference from afar but up close there are alot of differing details.
I gotta say that the new Rev products REALLY sound good.

Why not go with the new Rev 8's or Rev 10's over the MB8's?
