    JL W7 Box Build

My buddy and I built a new box for his 12" JL W7 to put into his Epic 23v last week. It came out pretty good and it hits HARD! He's running an Alpine PDX 1000.1 to it. The box he had before was too small and tuned at like 50hz so we went with a 1.75 cu ft box per JL specs and have it tuned at 36hz like they recommend.

In the first pic, the outer piece is not attached, it's just sitting on there. We were unable to find marine grade plywood here in Colorado so we went with 3/4" MDF and then used the truck bed coating on all surfaces before assembly. I know people will bash me for using MDF but we pulled the old box out that was in for 4 seasons and there were no signs of water damage at all and it wasn't coated with anything.

The next thing we are going to do is build a false front for it that will be wrapped in 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fiber which will match the faux carbon fiber dash that comes standard in the Epics.

He has (8) JL M770 TCX's across the swim platform and then (8) JL M770 TCS's inside the cabin and 4 PDX 4.100's to drive all of those. So with 17 speakers and 2,600 watts, it rocks!

I've never seen a port constructed like that before. Well done! I wish I could hear it play. I love JL Audio.

I would imagine that will shake the water ... and surrounding boats, fish, trees and anything else that is too close.

What I like about JL is not only do they hit hard, but they hit correctly and really accentuate every tone above the crossover point. I know other claim to hit hard and they do(!), but it seems that those I have listened to hit hard and that is it... they fall apart in the subtle bass department.

I have a JL sub in my truck and love it.

How did you join the seams?

I don't have any yet, we put it in when it was dark outside and then it started to rain so we had to put the cover on and he took the boat home. I will get some later after we get the faux front done.

Well, I cut out the "faux" front for him yesterday and he took it home and applied the Di-Noc carbon fiber to it and sent me this picture. I will try and get over to his house and get a better photo. He said that the carbon film was really easy to work with and looks pretty sweet in the boat.
