    Speaker/Amp combo question

    Amplifiers: (3)
    Kicker Ix402 (old)
    Kicker Ix402 (old)
    (yes I have 2)
    Clarion apx490m: (new)

    Speakers:
    4 Kicker KM6000 (new)
2 Wetsounds XS650 tower speakers (new)
1 12 inch kicker comp sub (old)

How should I wire this up to get the optimum performance?
My initial thought is to use both the two channel kicker amps to power the 4 in boat speakers (40W @ 4ohms)each
Then use 2 of the 4 channels bridged on the clarion to run the sub. Then use the 2 remaining channels (unbridged) to run the Wetsounds tower speakers.

    Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

At first glance, your plan is solid. But let me take a look at the specs on everything and just see how it plays out.

The previous owners setup was as follows:
1 kicker amp bridged running sub (parts mentioned above)
1 kicker amp running 4 (JVC CS-HX622) and 2 Double Fisted Tower speakers
      http://www.bartswatersports.com/cata...kers/index.asp

The bass seemed somewhat adequate (always room for improvement)
      The rest was rather undesireable.

I kept the cans and plan on putting in the wetsounds speakers. (I don't want obviously expensive cans/speakers on the tower as my Tige will be at a community pier.

Oh by the way I was going to add a Hifonics HFEQ to the setup mentioned in my first post to enable me to fade between tower and in boat speakers.

Ok, here is an option that may be a better use of what you have.

I would bridge each XST-650 tower speakers on the pair of the old IX402. This will net you 120 watts to each tower speaker.

With the Clarion APX-490: run the two pair of the km-6000 on half the amp (one pair wired parallel on chnl 1 and one pair on chnl 2). This will net each km6000 about 80 watts. Then bridge the Comp-12 on chnls 3/4 for 360 watts.

This gets you more dynamic range to both the in-boats and towers.

Not to question you, (but for the sake of better understanding)
If I am getting 120w out of each Kicker amp won't I blow the wetsounds? I thought their rating was 100W RMS?

            Thanks again.

Rating is 100W RMS and 200W peak for the 650 series speakers. They will handle 120 all day long and like it.

Oh ok. I thought the 120w from the Kicker was RMS.

                I have much to learn.

Correct. The RMS rating of a speaker is a target to aim for, and it never hurts to have a little more power to it.

Chp give me your thoughts on how I should wire mine. My buddy talked me into doing in different than what I was thinking of doing when I installed my new head unit and remotes.
                    I have 3 apx480m
3 sets wetsounds 650s in boat
                    Wetsounds FA10
1 set MB quartz 6 in. Components in cans maybe 6.5 not sure on the tower.
Let me know what you would do. Thanx

Im assuming the 10FA is a D2 and is bridged on two chnls of one of the 480M's?

                      Let me chew on it!

Yep that's the exact thing he changed from the way I was going to do it. I was on going to run it off half the amp with the sub wired like they come from the Tige. Not sure what you call it but it has one set of wires and then piggybacks off of them to the other side of the sub. Now we have it half the amp hooked to one side of sub and half the amp hooked to the other...make sense. Dear god I hope it does to you!

Ok, sounds like he has each sub coil wired to it's own amp chnl. We really need to know if its a 2 ohm or 4 ohm DVC. This can make a huge difference.

Is there by chance 2 chnls on one of the 480M's unused?

I'm speculating that the tower speakers are using half of one amp, sub using half an amp. 2 pair of xs-650's on one amp and the 3rd pair using half of a 480M.

Thats 2.5 amps being utilized, sound like what you have?

Take with a grain of salt as I do know the exact specs of the MB tower speakers and the configuration of the XS-10FA. You could realistically run what you have with only 2 of the APX480M's with maybe only a slightly noticeable drop in output from any component.

Running all 3 pairs of the xs-650's off of a single 480M, you will net 80 watts to the pair on the bow and 60 watts to each in the main cabin. With using an amp and a half, they are all receiving 80 watts. This reduction will still yield a well balanced system keeping in mind that you have 6 in-boats and a single 10" woofer with a potential of seeing only 230 watts rms with the given equipment.

on the second 480M, drive the pair of MB's on one half the amp and XS-10FA bridged on the other half. This will deliver 80 watts to each of the tower speakers and 230 watts to the sub.

Amp 1 for the sub -it's a 4ohm dvc half to one side half to the other
Amp 2 tower- half to left other half to the right.
Amp 3 Int.- half left half right.... Rear are run in series then parallel the front in for a 6 ohm load is what I am being told.
Now take it easy on us we don't claim to be experts. He is a friend of mine who was helping and has done his own stuff for years and they always thumped. I will say it sounds pretty good. If anything it has to much bass. I made him turn that down some. The tower speakers are weak but there old and small not a true tower speaker per say. I know we are working them to death but until I can get a set of WS up there they will have to do .Thanx again
