    New Gear From Kicker

    Nothing new yet on the Marine side, but a couple new things that i felt were worth sharing anyway.

    Last year, Kicker released their new line of Class-D Ix and DX series amps. For this year, it looks like they have expanded the line with a new IX1000.5

    It's all Class-D technology, so this means higher efficiency and that equals less current draw and less heat generation. This is good news for boats!

    Specs:
    125 watts rms x 4 @ 2ohm and I believe its 75 watts x 4 @ 4 Ohm
    500 x 1 @ 2 Ohm on the mono sub chnl. My guess is that the 4 Ohm spec may be 250 watts.

    Dimensions are roughly 8" x 11-3/8"

    Bass Control available. (I believe)

    Kicker also has the new Solo-Baric L3 sub line, available in 10", 12", and 15" models and power ranges from: Peak 800-1000 and RMS: 400-500

    They have also released a couple new Powered Subs http://www.kicker.com/powered_subs

    So that new IX would be a good replacement for the ZX700.5. Nice stuff! It looks like there is the new IX500.2 as well, don't remember seeing that one before! Might be a good amp for a pair of tower speakers.

    Question - if I replaced my current 10" comp vr with that new 10" L3, how much volume would I gain using the same box and the same 400 watts? Would it be noticeable or only like 1db or something?

      IMO, the new IX1000.5 would be a great upgrade to the 700.5.

      Not a real difference power wise on the full-range side @ 4 ohm, but a nice difference when running 2 Ohm.

      700.5 = 4 ohm/2 ohm 70/90
      IX1000.5 = 4 ohm/2 ohm 75/125

      On the mono sub chnl, the 80 additional watts rms @ 2 ohm is not earth shaking, but about an 18% increase in RMS power none the less. This does lend itself to more sub options.

      All thinks being equal, the square sub has more surface area then the round, so it will move more air. Now, this doesnt mean that it would perform the same or better in an existing enclosure that currently houses a CompVR.

      Your current setup is sealed, correct? What size?

      I know Phil as at the CES, so he may not see this and chim in for a couple days, but I would love to get his input.

        I have a 1.5 cu ft vented enclosure right now, I was mainly just curious how much louder the square woofer is.

          The power handling is the same, the sensitivity is deadnuts on, the min and max vented enclosures are the same, but the one spec not listed yet for the L3 is frequency responce.

          Right now, i'd say that the L3 would give a bit more output, but Im not sure it would seem that it is louder.
