My thoughts exactly. How can he have these things made and sell them so cheap? The email I recieved has a promotion code to pre-order one for $140 bucks. Kinda tempting at that price.
I got that email too and was considering purchasing. Is this a good product? What is the install like?
Don't know about the quality since no one has one yet. This is a preorder. Install should be pretty straight forward. Here is the promo code if anyone is interested.
So maybe I can pick your brain. We have a nice stereo in our boat. It seems plenty loud except for the rider. We have 4 tower speakers and the rider can hear it if you turn it up loud but sometimes its too much for the people in the boat.
This EQ seemed like an obvious solution b/c we can turn up the tower speakers independent of the in-boat speakers.
However, our tower speakers are the same rockford fosgate speakers that we have in-boat. Would we be better off just replacing the tower speakers w/ hlcd's? Will this help our issue of having to turn up the stero so loud for the rider? If so, how do you like your krypt hlcd's?

Thanks,

Like AJ stated, this item, which was due to hit the market last May of 09, has not actually been seen by the general public. So no one really knows how well the thing is put together.
Although it looks to be an almost dead-nuts on copy (the pic released last year was actually a Wet Sounds pic that was photo-shop'd with the Krypt logo), this one seems to have a few differences. A couple that jump out: Front AUX socket could be an entry point for water, 2 front buttons may not be water proof, so again a point for water, it looks like the line-driver voltage is adjustable to a full 12V and this can lead to a ton of noise if abused. Again, these are observations based on the pic and description provided by the importer, Krypt Audio.
Now, on to your question.
The 2 things that most any system can benefit from are a dual zone controller and a line driver. The EQ above, as well as the original WS-420 will do just that and more. Other devices, such as the Kicker ZXM-RLC will also give you Zone control and a Line-driver, but without the EQ features and talk-back MIC. The Kicker KQ9 is an EQ and line driver, but is not an actual zone controller. It has Front/Rear fade, which is fairly effective for what you are seeking, but having a stereo remote by the driver is a plus, as the head-unit is still the master volume with the Kicker KQ9. It also has a sub control
As far as you speakers go, in-boat coax type speakers like the Rockfords you currently have, can be audible at the rider, but it takes a ton of power and i'm not sure those R/F will handle what is needed.
HLCD's are just the ticket for projecting volume to the rider, but they too, need a ton of power. So, upgrading to HLCD's is the way to go if you want to get clear, audible music to your wake-boarder, but an amp upgrade may also be needed.
Since you have 4 tower cans already, let me offer another option to consider along with the Krypt HLCD's. Take a peak at the Kicker KM6500.2 HLCD tower speaker system http://www.kicker.com/km65002. These are some of the best sounding HLCD speakers in the 6.5 HLCD arena IMO. Properly fed, they will reach the rider, but yet they have a very "warm" sound to them when close in.
Even if you upgrade to HLCD's, you will still experience some of the overpowering volume in the cabin while getting the volume needed out to the rider. This is where a zone control of some type comes in handy. The head-units fade function can be utilized here, but it's kinda cumbersome if the unit is mounted in the glove-box.
