    GM Bose replacement speakers

I'm looking to replace the stock Bose system in my '04.5 Duramax. I thought I would start my search my presenting my query to the infinite wisdom of this board. I'm looking to keep it as simple as possible starting with the speakers and possibly a basic HU with Ipod control. That's it.

    Begin.

And to think I felt bad about starting a thread and then not checking on it for a few days. Everybody must have been out riding this weekend.

    Lets try this again.

    ...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand go!.

I don't know about your particular year but some GM's and Nissan's with Blows speakers are a pain in the azz to replace due to them being like 1 ohm speakers and having individual amplifiers on/near the speakers. If your vehicle is one of those, you used to go with a new head unit just to avoid hassle. While I wouldn't order from them, Crutchfield can be a good resource as to what fits in your truck as far as speaker sizes go.

Like Timmy said, if the GM Bose systems are like they used to be, the speakers are self-powered (amp'd), so just replacing the speaker will not fly.

If you're looking to do a new H/U, then now is the time to do the new speakers as well.

Metra www.metraonline.com is a great place to get the speaker sizes, as well as face-plate kits part #, antenna adapter part # and wiring interface plugs.

Odds are that your stock door speakers may be like a 5-1/4", if so, I would just go with a 6.5". it will require modifying the basket, and maybe an adaptor ring, but it's well worth the upgrade....more power handling (so you can amp later, often times a larger tweeter, more mid-bass.

Hmmm, bummer. As much as I'd like to put a new system in, it just ain't in the cards. The reason I want to do the speakers is because one is blown. I'm not dissatisfied with the system for a stocker. After all, it does have a cassette deck. That and the CD player won't play CDs. The radio still works like a charm so it'll pick up my Ipod transmitter. It is by far the hokiest stereo I own but, it's gotten me this far so...

Well, thanks for the tips fellas. If I come up with a solution, I'll let you know.
