I’ve got two pairs of Pro 60X tower speakers on my 2010 Z1. I’m having a problem with distortion when I turn them up loud. I’m running them with a 100RMS 4 channel rockford fosgate amp. Anyone have any tips on what I can do?

What model RF amp? I'm guessing it's a 50 x 4 and 100 x 2 and you are running it bridged in two chnl mode.

If so, it sounds like clipping. There are some settings that can be checked, but, I hate to say it that 100 watts is not enough power, especially if that amp is in bridge mode just to get what you got. In a sense, that amp is running at "wide open throttle" just to make 100 watts (which is not enough as noted above).

Setting: Make sure the amp is set to "Hi-Pass" on both halves fo the amp, set the x-over frequency dial to about 100Hz. Reset the gains properly. Do a search on this sight as Tim from Wet Sounds and Phil from Kicker have both posted great gain setting tutorials. After this, if the distortion still occurs, then I'd say you need more amp. Now, keep in mind, once the head-unit volume exceeds 3/4, the head-unit signal can clip.

Its a P400-4. Ive got and extra P1000-1db mono amp. Is there any way I could make that work?

The amp is rated at 50x4 at 4 ohms. You are running only 50 watts to each speaker RMS to the PRO 60's which need 150 watts RMS. So what is happening is you are clipping the output of the amplifier because the amplifier is severely under powered. There is not much you can do as far as settings go when you are this under powered. You can set the gain to the unity setting and be happy with the amount of output. But you will not get the full performance capability of the speakers. What you have now is you are wanting more out of the system than the amplifier is capable of giving. So when you really crank on it, the amp sends a clipped signal to the speakers.

Think of it like you have a 4 cylinder engine in your boat. And you have 4000 pounds of ballast and you want it to yank someone out of the hole. Engine just doesn’t have the power to do it. And when it tries, it redlines and sputters and makes all sorts of noise. Sure at some point, the boat will move. And might get you around. But it doesn’t perform like it could. Slap the big v8 in that same boat and it is a night and day difference. Think of the amp as the same thing. It is the power plant of the stereo system.

Unfortunately, the p1000-1db you have is a sub only amp. You cannot use it to power the towers.

You could bridge the 400.4 into 2 ch mode for 200x2 on one pair and see if you can trade someone the 1000 for another 400.4 so you have matched power.

Or you can look into getting a new amp just for the towers. We recommend the SYN-2 amp. This is what comes from the Tige factory powering the tower.

The SYN-2 does 200x2 at 4 ohms or 350x2 at 2 ohms. Which nets out to 175 per speaker.

You always want to try to match the RMS rating needs of the speaker or go above it if you can. This will make sure you get the true performance of the speakers.

Trust me, you haven't even touched the potential of your PRO 60's yet!
