best h/u with remote for controling ipod

i am looking into putting a new stereo in my 03 24v and need some input on head units and remotes i would like to be able to read and control my songs from the remote on the dash. who makes the best unit for this? Thanks

I think 2 of the best are the Alpine and the new Clarions. I have had good success with the Sony CDX-H910UI and the RMX60M remote. The CDXM60UI is a good head-unit, just doesnt give the same level of MP3 control that the H910 will. Oh, and dont go for the found online for real cheap last years model RMX55M Sony remote. It doesn't give the MP3 control of the new RMX60M.

I have all Kenwood components w/ Wetsounds & Polk Audio speakers. My Kenwood H/U controls the iPod really well. I can scroll thru playlists and songs. It displays song titles, playlist titles and artists. I've got a remote for the transom as well. You can control it from there as well and it has a display on the transom remote as well.

Looks like you can still get a refurb unit and save some money.

It will need to be one of the new Gen's like the CMD6, CMS1, or CMV1 or the M309. You will also need the new remotes as well like the MW series.

Good choice on the Kicker ZX700.5. For a sub, the zx700.5 will give you 210 watts RMS for a 4 ohm sub or 420 watts rms for a 2 ohm sub. This leaves the choices wide open for quite a few 10" or 12" subs. If it were me, I would do my best to try and accommodate a 2 Ohm sub (or two 4 Ohm subs in the 150-200 rms rating range) and take advantage of the available power. Most 10's will require an enclosure, so take this into account. For a couple of subs that will perform well in an infinite-baffle (free-air) installation, are the wet Sounds XS-10FA and the Kicker CompVr10. If you go with a 12, you will need to do an enclosure. The key is to go with one that will be happy with the 420 watts and you have room to do a proper size box. One more note, i'm not a fan of stowing away a sub when it's the only sub on the boat.

The Polks are a dime a dozen lately, but peeps seem to like the sound.

My best advice is to get it from an authorized retailer so it has factory warranty and support. There are tons of gray market sellers that offer warranty, but it's through them. If it takes a crap, and if they take care of you, it's a good chance the replacement will not be what you bought, but what they feel is a suitable substitute. This is because they dont buy direct and cant control the inventory. Besides, from an legit retailer, the warranty will most likely be handled directly with the manufacturer.

I would look for a CMD5 as it will have some Ipod control when using the CCA-Ipod. The CMD4A should be the same, but the 5 has Bluetooth. Other then that, I like the CMD series of H/U - 3 pre-outs (front, rear, non-fade) adjustable AUX sensitivity, SAT ready, Remote, etc. If you wanted to spend a bit more, I would recommend the new Gen with the USB.

                          That's a re-badged CMD5 if I ever saw one

The CMD4A will work with the CCA-Ipod on the C-Net and work with the older series CMRC remotes. To control an Ipod/Mp3 via remote, you would have to step up to the ne Gen units. The only real advantage of the CCA-Ipod is the better sound quality over using the head-phone jack cable and it also charges (most but not all without and adaptor), but a $25 dollar AUX Ipod cable will give equal quality and charge the device and will work with any head-unit that has AUX RCA inputs.
