    2009 RZ2 needs tower speakers

I searched the threads here but couldn't find an answer.

I just bought a "new" 2009 RZ2 but it did not come with tower speakers, it has the "premium" system which is just the clarion head unit and 4 in-boat speakers. I like the look of the factory speakers but I read here that the Samsons sound better and are a little cheaper. I know I am going to need an amp to drive them and I want to put a sub in the boat as well, here is what I am looking at:

Samson S7HD Speakers (just 1 pair, outboard locations)
    Wetsounds Syn4 amp
    Wetsounds XS-10FA

I don't want to win any bass contests, and I really don't care if I can hear the system while wakebaording, I just want a system that sounds pretty good when we anchor or raft up with friends. I will have a new baby soon and a 2 year old so I definitly won't be cranking it up that high.

Question #1, The samson are rated for 250 rms continuous and the sub is 500, this amp config will send 125 to the speakers and 400 to the sub. I have heard that too little power to the speakers is worse than too much, is the amp big enough to power this setup?

Questoin #2, Are there alternative product that will do the same, sound the same for a little less cash?

Question #3, Will I need to upgrade or add batteries on the boat to run this system at a conversation level for 4 hours or more?

Any tips, remarks or input is greatly appreciated.

        EWOK,

where are you located at? Happy to get you in touch with a dealer so you can get a demo and see and hear for yourself the Wet Sounds. Trust me! Worth the time.

Also, there is a wake event for SETex wake next weekend outside of Beaumont we will be at with our demo boat if you are from the area

Thanks for all the replies already.

          Wetsounds 1,

I am in Del Rio, on Lake Amistad. My boat is in Fort Worth, I'm going to take a few days of leave and pick it up on the 30th. I would like to hear the difference between the Wetsounds 60 vs 80 speakers. Like I said, I'm not trying to blow the cloths off everyone at the lake, just want to hear some tunes when swiming off the back of the boat with the kids.

            All,

Another issue is hanging height, I usually have a few adults and lots of kids running around the boat and I watched the salesman bump his head on the 80s that were in the demo boat. The hanging height on the Samsons is shorter than the 60s, thats another reason I was thinking of going that direction.

              ewok,

The 80's are quite larger but the 60's are going to be very similar to others on that tower

I have the same boat and had 4 wet sounds speakers installed, we are very happy with them. With the alpha z tower, you will bump your head on the speaker but typically no more than 3 times on any one trip. LOL
Chpthrl helped me out with adding a WS 420 during the off season. He is a great resource

did you get the Pro60s or 80s? do they swivel forward? how do you think they sound in the boat? where did you mount the 420, can you post a pic?

                  Thanks in advance

I don't know whether they are the pro 60's or 80's. Two came on the boat and when I bought it, I ordered 2 more to match and they put them on at the 25 hr check. The speakers don't swivel in? Here is the link with the ws 420 installation.

Since I put mine there another TO member installed a WS 420 that looked really good, but I don't think it was on an RZ2.

Here is the other install that was done really well. It would not work on my boat because I have 2 rows of switches on the right of the steering wheel.

thanks for the info, I was wondering if the speakers on the tower were able to swivel around to face the front like the samsons, that way if I installed the ws-420 and approaching a dock or another boat they could work as a PA to the front as well as a back for the skier.

That looks like a very nice install, that could work in my boat as well.

                              HWfreak,

Thanks for the offer, I just sent you a PM, I don't get up to San Angelo that often. I leaning toward a pair of the Pro 60s on the outboard locations for the tower since they are OEM and look very nice. I've been talking to Tim from wetsounds and he is helping me find a demo location to hear them. They might get pushed back to a winter project since I just put a down payment on a house in WA.
